why d teens rebel
Rebellious Teenagers Jeanine Lerche Davis, in her article, “Teenagers: Why Do They Rebel?” (August 11, 2003) informs parents why teenagers start acting up and start to rebel against society. She supports her claim by first emphasizing that teenagers can push your patience, and then she begins discussing how most teenagers go through similar phases during their teenager years, and finally she points out the true statistics about teenagers rebelling. Lerche’s purpose is to give advice to all parents of the necessity to officially start having a closer relationship with their teens. In order to accomplish this bond, she establishes an informative tone, for parents who would want to have a better relationship with their teens. The author is correct because some teenagers do start becoming rebellious. Teenagers start rebelling because at one point some teenagers go through similar phases such as “the need for independence, a separate identity, and testing authority” (Learch Davis). Rebellion is caused by the teen desiring more independence and control and the parents not yet willing to give it up. If parents don't know how to deal with their teens it will be a problem, also parents may think arguing is sign when their teens are starting to rebel, but they are wrong .Teenagers develop Vasquez 2 different ideas and skills everyday which leads to arguing. “It may seem that they argue for sake of arguing. But really, they’re practicing their new abilities” (Elkind). In previous generations teenagers were not likely to be sexually active, or having to experiment with drugs or alcohol, until they were eighteen and able to resist peer pressure , but now they are getting pressured at thirteen years old and not being able to resist peer pressure. “It is not that child development has changed, it is that demands are coming at earlier ages “(Elkind). Teenage years are a crucial part of growing up. At this stage, most teenagers love to explore things and when they are not permitted to do what they want, they will rebel. In order to maintain a strong relationship with your teenagers during these wild years, there should be communication and spending more time together. Davis Lerche, Jeanie. “Teenagers Why Do They Rebel?” August 11, 2003.

One might think that rebellion is the only way to express one’s individuality while being closely watched or expected to conform to a curtain code. The causes of teenage rebellion aren’t that complex. In order to become fully-functional adults, children need to separate themselves from dependency on adults. They need to assert themselves as grown human beings with thoughts and ideas of their own, that may be different from the generation that came before them. In an attempt to express his individuality Sammy feels the need to rebel and quit his job. “Sammy you don’t want to do this to your mom and dad” (Updike 435) Lengel says. Sammy replies “your right, I don’t” (Updike 435). But by this time in the story Sammy has gone too far to back pedal now. He knows that to take the final steps and become his own person, he has to go through with what he has started. So he takes of his bow tie and apron and walks out of the store, hoping the girls would be on the other side of the door waiting for him, ready to sing his praises and thank him the heroism he displayed inside. “In a study of adolescent sexuality, the social psychologist Janice Irving identifies nine areas that contribute to identity building during the adolescent years. These are gender relations; sexual identities; reproductive strategies; sexual language; the role of the family; non-reproductive sexuality; the purpose of sex; meaning of the body and sexual violence. Irving shows that cultural differences color each of these categories even as culture creates differences in understanding and behavior everywhere” (Falk 82). In the book Youth Culture and the Generation Gap, Gerhard Falk and Ursula Falk address the steps of adolescents seeking individuality through rebellion and other avenues of growth. Much like Sammy displaying his rebellion toward his boss, and also against his parents. He reached the time in his…

It is common for parents to be concerned about their children’s teen years, with rebellion, mood swings, and poor decisions being frequent grievances. Parents dread this “phase” and enter it with trepidation while being urged by their teens to give them more freedom as a person. What parents don’t realize is that their incessant complaints regarding their children’s unbounded freedom can have a negative impact on them. Many teens hear these complaints and believe that their parents would not approve of their choices and they must navigate their personal issues without assistance. Hormones alone are not what guide teens’ seemingly irrational behavior, but the absence of constructive parental guidance, too much freedom, and the stress associated…

Due to the recent events particularly effecting our Teenage World, we, as teenagers want to speak on behalf of our majority group. It has become a growing importance that teenagers now seek an independence from their parental authorities. All humans have a constitutional right to independence. The actual independence sought for from this Declaration is not to ignorantly demand an immature imbalance of childish desires, but rather to declare an independence more typical to that of an adult. We are not begging for video games, or a raise in our (non-existent) allowance. We significantly desire an opportunity to prove we are worthy of a more suitable independence.…

First of all, the primary source uses many words to describe adults’ actions to indicate the oppression teenagers suffered right now. Evidence like “clean up your looks,” “watch all the things you do,” “got methods of keeping you clean” and “rip up your heads” clearly show what kind of oppression teenagers have and what they need to resist. Adults are trying to make teenagers fit the “good standards” created by them. Good teenagers should be innocent, be obedient, study hard and so on. What’s more, adults are ready to find out teenagers’ mistakes at any time so that they could guide teenagers to what they thought is the correct way. They also want to make teenagers believe that the adults’ words are all right. Teenagers who live in such environment…

On the other hand, children themselves tend to be kind of ‘little devils’ sometimes. Childhood rebellion is parents’ worst nightmare. There are kids whose rebellion is caused by parental pressure. Others rebel because that’s just the way they are. After all they are just kids. They sulk over a lot of stuff, you cannot guess what their next wish will be. Something they wanted yesterday might be something they would throw away if you gave it to them today. As for the teenagers, their case is a lot more complicated. Most of the time all they want is independence and understanding, and when…

The young person proudly asserts individuality from what parents like or independence of what parents want and in each case succeeds in provoking their disapproval. This is why rebellion, which is simply behavior that deliberately opposes the ruling norms or powers that be, has been given a good name by adolescents and a bad one by adults. The reason why parents usually dislike adolescent rebellion is not only that it creates more resistance to their job of providing structure, guidance, and supervision, but because rebellion can lead to serious kinds of harm.…

Teen rebellion is a problem that's been around ever since teenagers have. Almost every teen goes through some sort of rebellious stage in or after the precious years of puberty. It's a problem that's caused by a number of attributes, the two main being teenage hormones and attitude. It's a superiority syndrome that teens get to let the world "adults" know that their views and opinions are not to be reckoned with. And with such a stubborn mindset that teen rebellion comes with, it can sometimes be impossible to tell them otherwise or make them listen to reason. 98% of teens go through it, lots do it just to show off and some do it because of an incredible feeling of "self- righteousness".
