Romeo And Juliet Forbid Their Parents
“O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name. Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, And I’ll no longer be a Capulet.” This famous quote from the play Romeo and Juliet shows the desperate love between these two well known characters. Although their love was a great love, their love was a forbidden love that no one knew about, not even their parents. Even though Romeo and Juliet were in love, they were only teenagers who were not thinking logically. Their parents could have changed their lives if Romeo and Juliet had told them. Parents only want the best for their kids and when adolescents are teenagers, parents should be in charge of them. Parents should have the rights to forbid their child from marrying certain people.
In the play Romeo and Juliet, there were many times that the two teenager’s parents should have the rights to forbid their child from marrying one another. In Act I scene 1, after the Capulet and Montague servants fought and the Prince stopped the fight, Lord Montague and Lady Montague were noticing how down their son, Romeo, had been acting lately. To see what the matter was, they ask Romeo’s best friend, Benvolio, to see what had been making him sad lately. Though the Montague’s intentions were good, Romeo’s parents should have taken matters into their own hands and found

The historical hatred between the Capulets and the Montagues immediately compromised the relationship between Romeo and Juliet. They both knew that their parents would forbid their love for each other. Romeo and Juliet recognized that their partnership would never be blessed, yet this parental control could not stop the loving bond between these two young adults. (Act II Scene I) A second example is the arrangement of marriage between Juliet and Paris.Juliet protested that she did not love Paris and would never marry him. Juliet threatens her parents that if they force her to marry Paris, she will end her life for her heart belongs to Romeo. Romeo and Juliet could have made so many better decisions throughout their marriage. One of the decisions they could have made was just being honest with their parents. Being honest with your parents goes a long way and brings a whole lot less stress to your life because you don't have to worry about them finding out. Another decision they would have made is to just move slower. I believe that they moved way too fast into marriage; they didn't even get to know one another before deciding to marry one another.…

Ultimately Capulet shouldn’t have put so much pressure on Juliet’s marriage. This lead to Romeo and Juliet committing suicide. I believe that Capulet had terrible parenting skills because he was abusive and Lady Capulet didn’t do anything about it. Juliet was not ready for marriage and was clearly uncomfortable with marrying Paris. He didn’t give her the freedom of choice or let them date at all. In conclusion, Capulet should be more open towards Juliet’s marriage and should just end the feud between them and the…

When it comes to being a supportive parent of Juliet's decision in marriage that can be questionable. For example Lord Capulet is explaining to his servants of how he realizes he is not young anymore, “ Welcome, gentlemen, I have seen the day that I have worn a visor and could tell a whispering tale in a fair lady's ear, such as would please. “Tis gone...”, Lord Capulet is basically explaining how he realizes that he is not within his youth age anymore, he can’t just go around making love to a fair maiden. Back then the point of life was to multiply, it made sense the average age to live too was in your 20’s or 30’s. The only problem is it can be hard to multiply especially when you are yelling at your daughter that you don’t care about them and they can go die in the streets. This is exactly what Lord Capulet did to Juliet when she expressed her true feelings toward the marriage to paris. Lord Capulet Indignantly yells at Juliet, “ An you be mine, i’ll give you to my friend; and you be not, hang, beg, starve, die in the streets, for, by my soul i’ll ne’er acknowledge thee, Nor what is mine shall never do thee good: trust To’t, bethink you; i’ll not be forsworn.”, Lord Capulet never fails to show anger at the highest level. Juliet on the other hand is not trying to be rude by refusing to marry Paris, she doesn’t like him, and she’s already married, the only problem is…

From medieval times it continues to progress into modern times. Although, some parents restrict teens from meeting their lover and put ground rules to prevent it from happening. “I’d give anything to keep them from seeing you here.” “The darkness will hide me from them. And if you don’t love me, let them find me here. I’d rather they killed me than have to live without your love”(2.2.74-78). In spite that Capulets and Montagues hate each other, both Romeo and Juliet don’t care if they're from two opposing families. Juliet warned Romeo that if one of her relatives finds Romeo he will be executed. By Romeo’s love he hides himself under the darkness. If Juliet doesn’t love Romeo he’ll rather die. Juliet truly loves Romeo and she will do anything to covert her true love from being seen. For parents, they believe that teenagers make the wrong decisions which can cause an effect in their future. “This ongoing construction in the thinking part of the brain, a teenager is, many times, not capable of fully processing information that is necessary to make responsible decisions”(Wolner 28). Basically, researches are saying that teenagers do make mistakes and have risky behavior. For this to come upon a teenager is when the prefrontal cortex of the brain is still in process of being completed from maturing. Parents put up rules for their teenagers so they could “round out” a perfect person for their children. If a parent’s teen breaks the rules and falls in love a person that the parents disagree with it could cause family tragedies. Typical tragedies are disgracing your family's honor and rarely child abuse. “ The idea of a romance between the couple horrified their families who banned them from seeing each other” (Rowe 24). In other words, for both families of different ranks they believe the couple will cause a disgrace in their family’s…

Romeo and Juliet’s parents wanted them to get married to other people because they did not know about Romeo and Juliet’s relationship. If Romeo and Juliet were truthful about who they didn’t and did want to marry, then maybe their parents wouldn’t have forced them to marry other people. Also if Romeo and Juliet got married in public maybe it would break the feud because Romeo and Juliet would be disappointed in their family and their family would want them to be…

In the play The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, two families, the Capulets and the Montagues, have a strong hatred for each other. In the beginning of the play, people learn that Romeo Montague had his heart broken by a woman named Rosaline. Later, he met Juliet at a party and they fell in love. A few moments later they found out that their families were rivals, but they didn’t care because they wanted to be with each other. So the following day, Juliet insisted that they get married and so they did. They went to Friar Lawrence, the priest, and even though he didn’t want to go through with it, he believed that the marriage might have brought the families together. Later, Juliet’s father forced her to marry…

The blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet could be placed on many different people for many different reasons. Despite all of the characters actions from the play that lead to the young couple's dreadful demise, the real blame should be placed on their society as a whole. The societal expectation of parents picking their child's spouse at the time was the norm, but it wasn't well thought out. If society at the time wasn't so focused on the name attached to the person, their deaths would've been preventable. Finally, if society would take into account the feelings of the people being married and actually pay attention to what both parties want, the deaths of Romeo and Juliet could've been dodged.…

It is obvious that parents want their children to marry someone who is just right for them, and being their parents, they think they know best. But sometimes parents think they have a say in the entire relationship, which in my opinion, should not be the case. Of course consent is essential and your parents should like and approve of who you are going to marry, but they should only have so much say. That meaning they should not tell their children whom they have to marry, instead influence them in a very indirect way. In other words, share your ideas and raise your children with the right morals and good values which can lead to trust in their child to marry the right person. I think parents should have very little control because it is who your child falls in love with and wants to be with, not the parents. If you want your child to be happy, let them be with the person that makes them happy. It is not their decision to make when it comes to something like this, but they have a right to tell if the decision their child is making, according to them is right or wrong. "Full of vexation come I with complaint against my child, my daughter Hermia. Stand forth, Demetrius. Mynoble lord, this man hath my consent to marry her. Stand forth, Lysander. And my gracious duke, this man hath bewitched the bosom of my child. Thou, thou, Lysander, thou hast given her rhymes, and interchanged love tokens with my child. Thou hast by moonlight at her window sung with feigning voice verses of feigning love, and stol'n the impression of her fantasy with bracelets of thy hair, rings, gauds, conceits, knacks, trifles, nosegays, sweetmeats messengers of strong prevailment in unhardened youth. With cunning hast thou filched my daughter’s heart, turned her obedience (which is due to me) to stubborn harshness. And, my gracious duke, be it so she will not here before your grace consent to marry with Demetrius, I beg the ancient privilege of Athens. As she is mine, I may dispose of her which…

Would you marry someone after knowing them for only a few hours? What if they were your family’s adversary? In most cases, the answer should be no. However in the story of “Romeo and Juliet,” the young couple, Romeo and Juliet, each from feuding families, decided to get married only a few hours after they met, fully knowing that both families will not approve. The end result of Romeo’s and Juliet’s poor decision to marry ultimately lead to their deaths. We believe that Romeo and Juliet’s untimely demise was the result of their imprudent choices. Those poor choices are because Romeo and Juliet are too young to have fully developed brains. Based on the article, “Decision Making is Still a Work in Progress for Teens”, Romeo and Juliet having underdeveloped frontal lobes which can lead to impulsive behavior and decisions. Because Romeo’s and Juliet’s brains were underdeveloped, they were unable to make prudent decisions that could have prevented their unfortunate deaths.…

When a person becomes a parent, their ultimate goal in life is to protect and provide for their child. Juliet had the ideal childhood environment; her parents sheltered her from the negative of the world and provided her with the best in life. Yet sometimes parents’ best intentions are not suitable for their child. Juliet’s view of marriage at the beginning was naïve, “It is an [honor] that I dream not of” (1.3.71). The thought of marriage…
