Why I am Optimistic About our Nation's Furure
Savannah Rippy

To be optimistic about something means to be hopeful and confident about it. The word optimistic can be applied to several things. Such as; a person, an idea, and to me, our Nation's future. When someone is optimistic about something, the person, idea, or thing usually means something to them, and America's future means something to me. It means a great deal to me because I live in a place where I have the freedom to make my own choices, have an opinion, and to worship our mighty God whom I love and serve . America also means something to me because it is a country that is worth fighting for. I am reminded every day of all the troops that have fallen and i am also reminded of the dedicated military that works so hard to make our home a better place. I am able to put all of my trust into my country's future and I will forever remain optimistic about it. There are so many reasons why I am so optimistic but a few reasons stand out to me. The three that stand out to me are because of the potentially strong upcoming generation, because of America's ability to stand back up after being defeated, and because of the knowledge and footsteps our past great leaders have left us. I am so optimistic about the generation to come. Right now we are teenagers and young adults but someday very soon we will be the examples and we will be the ones leading America. I have so much hope that we will not let our country down. I am optimistic because we have been shaped and molded into great people and we are so fortunate to live in a place where all things are possible. Our families, teachers, and friends have told us sometime along that anything is possible if you set your mind to it and that is why we are going to make awesome adults someday. We have the knowledge and the mindset to become anything we want. Whether we go into politics, peruse a career in medicine, work in school

So how is hopefulness and optimism related? Both terms are positive. Both terms are wonderful motivators. Hope is a dream and optimism makes the dream come true. Hopefulness is the emotion or feeling that keeps a person going and striving for, whatever it is that an individual wants (Peterson, 2000). Optimism is hopefulness and confidence about the future or the successful outcome of something (“Dictionary.com”, 1995). Some researchers feel that optimism differs from hopefulness in that optimism has a proactive component called planning. When contrasting hopefulness and optimism, optimism is usually based on logical concrete facts, for example statements like “I hope that the economy will improve” and “I am optimistic that the economy will improve”. The first statement can be made with no basis of fact or evidence to support it. We can be hopeful for anything at any time. The second statement however, communicates more confidence, optimism is usually based on evidence that can be judged or evaluated in terms of rational criteria (Snyder, 2000). Hopefulness and optimism are dissimilar in that hopefulness is situation specific and subject to change upon one’s own abilities. Optimism is an altogether elucidatory term that positive things will occur free of one’s capacity to do something.…

Based on where America's economic inequality, racial inequality, and police brutality is heading, Americans will revolt within the next ten years. Americans will soon be tired of getting treated unfairly in their government leading to violent and loud protest. Several graphs show economic inequality ,racial inequality, and police brutality is occurring. The vast difference in the distribution of wealth between the social classes in the United States leaves the lower class unemployed and broke. Racial inequality is seen with whites being 5% unemployed and people of color being double that amount! Police brutality is killing hundreds of innocent people per year. My vision for America is where everyone will be able to receive an education not just children but everyone. We need to push people to get good grades and not be stressed out about it. Every year there is over 1.2 million high school dropouts and studies show that about half of American college students drop out of college. We need to find a way to motivate students to stay in school and try their hardest so we can have more doctors or teachers in the world to help people. That’s why everyone gets an education in my vision for America…

I don’t think we are all optimistic its ok to think that way but I think it’s just because the upper men like congress and the president have to think that way always that they makes us people think that way also to give us hope. But like the blacks and Hispanics yea I think they were optimistic because Obama gave them hope but then since really hasn’t fulfilled his duty that he promised their optimism went down. What Moyers says in the article he says how the pattern of history just kept doing down that we lost control of our economy because after World War 1 that’s when we got a cloud over the government. Each president we had failed to improve and that’s why our optimism staggered.…

Every American has their own vision for how they want America to be in the future. For example, they might think the exact opposite of what I believe. Most importantly, we need to keep our visions alive so that we can make America a great place to live. If we put all our positive visions together, then we will make the future a better place for not only us, but for our children and grandchildren. We should also pass down the history of how our founding fathers fought for our country so that future Americans can appreciate them as much as we do. In the future, we need world peace, patriotism, and…

I was born and raised here in the United States. Therefore, I have been part of a generation that has experienced both the good and the bad. When I was younger, I always thought America was the greatest country in the world. I was so proud to be born and raised in the United States. I remember learning about 9/11 every year, watching Barack Obama become our first African-American President, and learning about the many tragedies our nation has faced along these past few years. Being an American and witnessing so many events unfold these past few years has made me feel both happy and upset with how our nation has evolved. The United States is filled with so much pop culture and technology and…

Optimism is hard for me to achieve. I’ve been through so many tough times in my seventeen years and it is very difficult to stay positive. I’ve had to suffer through many broken bones and surgeries, depression and the things that go along with it, and also being bullied in school. I try to stay as optimistic as I can. Being positive and hoping for the best is about all I can do for myself. My life definitely has not been the best but even through all of the terrible things I’ve endured, I can still keep a positive outlook on things.…

The Generation of Americans - to me it means the way us Americans have evolved in life. The things that we’ve overlooked things or things that we are still concerned about. Now I have only lived for 13 years I don’t really know what it means to value living here in America. I’m surrounded by hearing people talk about Donald Trump or other politics and I have to pick a side. I am not allowed to vote yet so I really don’t have to worry about those kind of things but my family does, a lot of people worry about it because it impacts the future of us Americans.…
