Work Field Reflection
I knew what this class was about when I entered it. I knew the work I was up against. I knew it was all or nothing. Knowing all of this, I still slacked off and my grade suffered. Of course it’s no one else's fault but mine but I’m stubborn it took a couple of classes for me to finally learn some work field values that I never thought I really lacked until I stopped to think. For one I’m always late and that is not good for entering the work field but the answer wasn’t as simple. It takes 12 days to establish a habit so they said. I never made it a habit to be on time until this class. For all of the assignments it was all or nothing. If a second late that would be a zero. Like I said again i don’t learn from my mistakes that easy I have …show more content…

I have learned a lot by being these kids it's been a rollercoaster ride everyday. The first thing I learned was being adaptable and flexible. When I enter the room, I basically am learning with them I get the information and then I go and help them understand. I also walk around the classroom if they are doing stations and I help them understand. So basically wherever they need me I am there since that's my job. Since I'm with these lower age kids I have learned to hide my frustration and turn it to inspiration. This has helped me so much with these kids because on some day they are just awful, they make your blood boil. When these days occur I breathe in and out thenn think of something to really benfit the situation. Although other people might not think it’s a grreat skill I really like the spotaneity of thinking of ideas to help the class. Another thing I have learned throughout internship is explaining things in multiple ways. Since some my students have learning disabilities and read little English I need to be able to explain things differently so they can understand. I really like that I have obtained this skill because I feel it can prepare for my career in business. Since in business sometimes you need to persuade others and being able to explain ideas, thoroughly and in different ways can work to a great

Within school, it is important to be able to build good relationships with the children you work with so that they feel comfortable in your company and feel that they are able to speak with you. The first step to achieving this would be to establish a mutual respect and to have clear rules in place so that the children understand what is expected of them and what they can expect from you. As a member of staff, you need to be able to adapt your own behaviour and communication skills in a manner that is age appropriate. It's important that the children feel secure, valued as an individual and as important as any other person within the school and your manner needs to demonstrate this. This will help you to get to know and understand the characters of each individual child and will help you to spot any problems or difficulties a child may be experiencing…

The semester started off the same as most. I go into it telling myself that I will stay caught up this time. I won’t allow myself to do assignments at the last minute. As usual these promises are quickly broken. I work eight to twelve hours a day and six days a week most weeks, so often when I get home, the last thing I want to do is homework. This means putting everything for most of my classes off till Sunday. A habit I have sadly been in for the better part of my time at Gateway.…

I decided to explore these opportunities as they provided an opportunity to work with children as I have an interest in becoming a teacher. My identified work opportunities will enhance the flourishing of myself as it will teach me to be more patient, communicate better, develop leadership skills and provide me with the chance to learn how to deal with different types of people. Moreover, these work opportunities provides a chance for me to improve public speaking which I struggle with, allow me to create networking, and gain teaching abilities. The gap in these work experiences are that although it provides me with an opportunity to work with children however, it includes working in small groups rather than an entire class of 25-35 students. A method to fill this gap can be that to work as a teacher assistant so it gives a preview of what the environment of teaching several students with one person, the teacher is charge is like.…

As a new teacher I have not be given the privilege to have my own classroom yet, but I was given the opportunity on two occasions to practice my teaching skills with students. These two experiences have given me so much insight on how a classroom is run, and what I need to do implement to have a successful and smooth running classroom. Growing up from a very diverse back ground has allowed me to be more open and accepting with my students. I feel that I can relate to many of them on many aspects. I believe this trait will allow me to be success with not only my students, but with the student’s parents, administrators, as well as my co-workers.…

When I had first volunteered at a preparatory school as a teacher’s assistant, I was thrilled and excited. I enjoyed working with children and I admit, was slightly disillusioned with expectations that the children would be dutiful and effortless to watch over. Unfortunately, all my prior imaginations crashed the second I entered the classroom. Everywhere I saw, it was pure chaos. I dodged a flying crayon as I saw children running around throwing paper airplanes, balls, while others just stared at their iPads, focused on the latest game. Not a single one of them even listened to me or glanced at me as I tried to yell over the loud chatter.…

However, it is my own fault to some extent because I have had time to squeeze in at least some homework, I did not. Instead I chose to spend time with my husband and our nieces. Unfortunately, everything is starting to catch up with me now and I just keep telling myself, “I have to get this done if I want to pass my class and graduate, so stop screwing off!” I know that I have a tendency to push off my work until last minute and then rush to get it done,…

Growing up in poverty meant always being in a pinch for money. This led me to my decision of seeking a job within the first month of my freshman year in high school. Thankfully, this decision led me to the precious self-taught skill of time management. I was able to build my skills until my sophomore year. I tried to take on additional shifts at work than I could handle, in aspiration of saving up for a car, and consequently my grades began to slip. I acquired my first C in my favorite class: Chemistry. Being an aspiring student in the medical field, and a student who prides themselves on their grades, I was devastated. As a result, I soon reached the epiphany that one has to have priorities in life; I chose mine to be education. I discussed with my boss my situation and she gave me a set schedule of a feasible 4 shifts a week. This allowed me to complete my homework and studying in advance. This also…

    * Academic Work: I’m achieving very good grades except for my meteorology. It’s a subject that I’m very new to and something that is actually very hard for me. I understand the material of the work I just have a hard time putting it down on my homework or test. I took that class so I can have a challenge in school. Yes indeed, it’s giving me a work out, but in the end I know it will be all worth it because I would have passed that class. Not with a D or a C passing it with a B or an A. Other than that class, I’m enjoying every single bit of all my other classes. I’m currently passing them with an A or B. I’m very well satisfied.…

On December 3rd, 2015 I was lucky enough to have a job shadow at POET in Sioux Falls. Im very happy that Kirsty Jackson gave me a job shadow here because this was one of the most fun experiences that I ever had. I showed up to my job shadow at around 10:30, and right away I could tell that this was going to be a fun time. Within minutes of being inside the building Katie Wiseman greeted me and showed me down to the room where my job shadow took place. Once we got settled we asked each other a few questions to get to know each other. Once we had been aquatinted she began to tell me all about the work that she does at POET. She told me that she was the talent manager at POET. When I asked a question about Human Resources, she told me about how POET uses a system called C.A.R.E. She explained that CARE is more than just human resources and that it caters to the…

I admit, I had a very difficult time last semester, and my grades suffered as a result. I don't mean to make excuses for my poor academic performance, but I would like to explain the circumstances. I knew that registering for 18 credit hours in the spring would require a lot of me, but I needed to earn the hours so that I was on track to graduate on time. I thought I could handle the work load, and I still think I could have, except that my father became very ill in February. While he was home sick and unable to work, I had to drive home every weekend and some week nights to help out with household duties and to care for my little sister. Needless to say, the hour-long drive each way cut into my study time, as did the chores I had to do at home. Even when I was at school, I was very distracted with the home situation and was unable to focus on my schoolwork. I understand now that I should have communicated with my professors (instead of avoiding them), or even taken a leave of absence. I thought I could handle all of these burdens, and I tried my best, but I was wrong.…

As I read this article, it actually made me laugh because some of the excuses I have used myself. Although it is bad to turn in an assignment late, it is not bad to make an excuse to make up for it. After all, it’s all for our sake. If the instructor let us go with it, then we’re good. But that doesn’t mean we can do it again. In this kind of situations, first is alright, but never expect a second time because any instructors would definitely doubt a second time. This article is an irony because it shows how the excuses made the teachers believe to not believe the students as time…

In tough times, when I had no idea what to achieve or what was going on, I kept my cool and made sure the kids were having fun in our quest for knowledge. It was a unique adventure for me in that I had little to no experience watching children, nor did it seem conceivable to emerge outside of my shell. Nevertheless, I pushed myself to accomplish it knowing I would come out better, and more mature person, in the end.…
