SUBJECT: Workforce Transportation Habits
Ms. Suarez, I’ve been working diligently collecting data about trouble that our workforce is causing in the local traffic. I have been researching our workforce transportation habits and I have two solutions to address this matter.
One way to address this issue would be to encourage our employees to carpool. By our employees carpooling we could reduce the amount of vehicles that are driven every day. Currently, only 23% of our employees carpool every day. However, 64% of our employees never carpool. A way to encourage them would be to give a financial bonus to the employees that carpool. This bonus should be according to the distance they commute. It could be from 15% to 35% of their gas weekly gas cost.
Another way to address to issue is by increasing the number of our employees who take public transportation. Presently, 54% of our employees use public transportation. This number is surprisingly high. However, it could be higher. A company with the size of ours could have a lot of influence on the local public transportation. Therefore, we should negotiate for good prices for weekly passes and better routes to benefit our employees. Also, the company should cover the cost of the weekly passes. This has the potential of 100% of employees using public transportation. Currently 28% of our employees never use public transportation. Nevertheless, this could change very soon.
These two solutions I presented to you are fixing transportation issues. However, a better way to solve this issue is for the employees not to have the need of transportation at all. A permanent solution to this is telecommuting. Many of our employees are could work from home. Now, only 8% of our employees see this as an option. However, this number could increase if we explain to them the benefits of telecommuting. If only 10% of our employees
