Introduction:
World war 1 happened 100 years ago this month, it remains the defining conflict of the modern day.
To what extent is it true to say that WW1 changed popular understanding of war?
Before World War 1 people thought that war was glorious and an adventure by the end of the war they realized that this was not true World War 1 changed the popular understanding of war.
World war 1 changed the way that war is now fought, this happened because both mechanization and technology were brought into the battlefield. Aviation, submarines, chemical warfare, armored vehicles, tanks, machine guns and wireless communication greatly altered the dynamics of war from those preceding it. Many of the wars technological advancements resolved …show more content…
This was probably the ‘most fun’ part of war. War was also very depressing, as you had to see your friend’s be killed and suffer the damages of warfare, along with this missing your family back home was really upsetting the thought that you may die and never see them again kept running through soldiers minds.
What new technology came from World War 1?
World War 1 brought about lots of new technological inventions. Submarines, chemical warfare, armored vehicles, tanks, machine guns and wireless communication are all inventions that come from World War 1.
How did these technologies impact the way war is now fought?
The inventions mention in the paragraph above changed how wars are fought in the modern day. The creation of the machine gun meant that soldiers could fire rapidly and with ease rather than having to reload after every shot or two that was fired. Rapid fire was great because it also meant that more enemies could be defeated and on the defensive side more lives saved. The submarine was a very successful invention because it meant a new sneakier way to fight a war submarines are like underwater tanks that humans can enter and fire cannons and see where enemies are on the radar. Of course back in the First World War the submarine wasn’t as developed as it is now however it was still a very useful and effective way …show more content…
The tank had cannons coming out of the front of it to fire rounds of bombs enabling soldiers to blow up anyone and anything in its path. Tanks were first secretly transported by train to German bases, the tanks were covered in a large sheet of tarp that was labeled ‘tank’ so that the Turks would think nothing of it and not suspect that they were transporting a new form of weaponry that could potentially destroy them. The big tarp with tank written on it is how the ‘tank’ got its name.
How was this different to before?
This is different to before because people used to fight war with knives and lower class weaponry making it much harder to fight war effectively. People war would take much longer to fight and take lots more effort.
How did trench warfare work? What was the objective?
Trench warfare worked by soldiers seeking cover in trenches, that were deep, and long holes in the ground. The objective of trenches wad that soldiers could take cover and have time to reload their weapons and switch who fires the gun next. Trenches meant that soldiers could prepare their weapons and have a safer route to different places along their side of the land.
This was a very effective way of warfare because it helped soldiers have time to think and
