During class when we sit together as the group for YMCA, I saw the group getting into discussion about ideas for the event. I saw groups going up to TAs and the professor talking to them for advices and getting their questions answered about the event. It shows that the team is willing to be prepared and know what they expect during the event. At the event, the team was well prepared, they brought the materials that they need and everything went smoothly like they planned. Every stations were ready, the art and craft stations where they made flowers and pledges brought extra materials so there will be plenty enough for

The event was planned but the timings hadn’t been specified in a way that would work well for all the groups. For example, we started off the event with the plan to move groups on every 10 minutes onto the next activity, however the needed more time than just the hour we had to be able to move through and do an activity in every group and then we also needed time to go through prizes and certificates at the end.…

As a result of these practices some schools became synonymous with death and disease. When a smallpox epidemic struck Blue Canyon Day School located in the Navajo Nation, agency officials feared the death of children, knowing that if a child died at the school, the Navahos would immediately declare the building shinkie, or devil haunted, and remove their children. A shortsighted and expedient policy of filling schools beyond their intended capacity or overworking the children in manual work programs cost hundreds of students their lives as epidemics swept through dozens of schools (DeJong, 2007).…

There are multiple ways that recent trends in the sport industry are affecting the YMCA. A majority of them would be revolving around the economy and how the YMCA is considered a luxury to the people. Others would be the increase of fitness in the world and sport curiosity and also the elderly still maintaining their healthy lifestyles. The battle against obesity is increasing the number of people who join a fitness club or health organization. Also, many people are beginning to try to find both healthier lifestyles and seeking a balance between work and leisure (Sports, 2007). Lastly, the way that kids are being taught is changing; practices are becoming known as best practices and the kids are learning more of the sport and becoming better (Stephens, 2009).…

My personal reaction when visiting the downtown YMCA facility was that everything seemed well organized. From the moment you walk through the door you had immediate help from staff members trying to assist you in whatever you needed. The staff members were able to answer any questions I had prepared for them and even gave me a tour of the whole facility. During the tour I was impressed with how detailed and well the staff member was with explaining what programs were available within the facility. He presented a whole lay out on how I would go about joining the different programs they had available, fee information, and the certain age groups I could expect to see within certain programs.…

For my observation I chose to survey a few students that attend after school/day care at YMCA Elmonte. YMCA elmonte has guidelines for volunteers and requires A background check for non staff. I was not able to get full access to the YMCA as a volunteer due too time constraints for this first observation, but should be processed in time for observation number two for older aged adolescents. I choose to pay attention to age groups 4-5 years old for my first study as grounds for learning about Social Cognitive Theory. This age group is very high energy yet, not very logical in their decision making abilities. The city of Elmonte has a very high population of Latino and White children. The social demographic of this area has a lot of young…
