For generations, conflict between atheistic and Christian beliefs has not ceased to persist. The idea of a six-day creation, A.K.A. Young Earth Creationism, is a popular dispute amongst the two worldviews; due to scientific theory of being dependent on the suggestion that the world was formed over a duration of millions of years. “If you reject the creation account in Genesis, you have no basis for believing the Bible at all. If you doubt or explain away the Bible’s account of the six days of creation, where do you put the reigns on your skepticism?” (MacArthur, 2001.)
One of the most popular questions asked by skeptics is, “Does it really matter whether or not we choose to believe Young Earth Creationism to be true?” The Bible is to be read as completely true; once the authority of one piece of scripture is deemed untrue, the authority of the entirety of Scripture is lost. Genesis is the basic foundation of the Christian faith, and once it is deemed untrue, the Christian faith becomes weak at its core foundational beliefs.
Although this is true, people determine that their beliefs can still correspond with the truths of the Bible while retaining an Old Earth creationist mindset.
