As per the Community Rules & Guidelines, YouNow does not tolerate taunting, bullying, hate speech, racism, or otherwise harassing any other member of the community. As a YouNow Moderator I would have to determine first if it was, in fact, an insult. As it occurs in almost every part of the world, some insults are used in a positive context; and in Latin America, that happens more than we would want to.
If we assume the insult was intentional, I would warn the user. If the user persisted, I would have to suspend the user. If the user continued to break the rules after the suspension, I'd have to use my good judgement to determine if another …show more content…
suspension could help, or finally ban the user.
As a YouNow Moderator, what would you do if you came across a user who was under the age of 18 and shirtless? *
As per the Site Rules, any user under the age of 18 without a shirt may be subject to a suspension or a permanent ban. As a YouNow Moderator I would have to investigate the situation, analyze what happened, and, if possible, discuss the matter with my teammates to determine if the case grants a suspension or a permanent ban. It could seem like a simple choice: just ban the user! But there are as many variables as there are users: if the user was playing with their pet and their shirt broke while playing, or just suffered a wardrobe malfunction, and were shirtless just for one second (the time it took for the user to disappear from view or cover themselves), a suspension could be enough for the user to be more cautious the next time.
No situation would be the same, but as time and experience grow, these choices would be easier.
Why do you want to be a YouNow Moderator, and why should we choose you? *
A safer community makes a better world, where people can interact and grow together. When people feel safe, they gain confidence to achieve their dreams. I want to be a YouNow Moderator to help it be the best and safest platform for people to express themselves!
As someone who delved into multiple areas(?), and having loved my previous experience as a Forum Moderator, I would bring all this knowledge to help in every case. Knowledge in IT, Counseling, Law and IT Security are all useful when dealing with people in an online platform.
And, being born in the metropolitan City of Buenos Aires, the most culturally diverse city of Latin America, I live, work and play in a multi-cultural environment(?).
This experience makes it easier to judge the little (and sometimes big) cultural differences between latin american users, and to understand their needs and worries.
What experience do you have, if any, that is relevant to moderation and/or the tech & Internet industry? *
In the past, I volunteered for 11 months as a Forum Moderator in a gaming forum for an online MMORPG (Ragnarok Online), and later as a Game Master in-game. The forum had about 3000 active users. I learned to be patient and level headed, moderating the young gamer community.
After nine years working on IT, I consider myself tech-savvy and a technology lover. I expect technology to help people express themselves and bring them closer; and as I delved into my passion for psychology and counseling, I've gained skills for understanding social connections, and making better relationships. Also, as a bachelor in Law and IT Security enthusiast, I understand and value peace preserving policies and rules, and also the internet trolls's desire to break them.
Which social networks do you use? What is your favorite, and why? *
I use Facebook and LinkedIn mostly. My favorite is Facebook, for its multiple ways to connect with
people.
What days and times would you be available to moderate? *
Currently, I would be available Monday-Friday from 16:00-22:00 (Buenos Aires time)
That would mean:
Mexico (Mexico City) timezone: 13:00-19:00
Spain (Madrid) timezone: 20:00-02:00
EST: 14:00-20:00
