Your Character Is John Lubbock

Our choices make or break us as humans. Naturally we all make bad decisions, but if we continuously make those decisions it becomes our character. The British naturalist and politician John Lubbock wrote, “Your character will be what you yourself choose to make it.” I believe this statement is true. We are all given the opportunity to choose our own character traits because character is developed over the course of our life time, and it is forever changing. I think people with good character traits are people that want to be supporting of their peers, are always kind and caring to everyone they meet, and they are never rude or bitter to anyone. People with good morals strive to always be respectful to their parents, they are reliable and dependable, and they do not look down on others. Most people choose how they are going to act towards the people they encounter everyday. It is their personal decisions that decide what their character may be. Having a good character starts with having a good outlook on life. How we react to the things we encounter helps to develop our character. For example, if we see an elderly woman that needs help putting her heavy groceries into her vehicle, we can either offer to help her, or we can walk away. Although offering to help her would be my instinct, others could just walk away and never think a second thought about it; this is how our character is brought upon us. If one were to realize they have a bad character and they wanted to change it, literally all they have to do is start by holding the door open for other individuals, maybe the next day they can compliment someone and make their day.
