Personal branding is the process whereby people and their careers are marked as brands. The process is further defined as the creation of an asset that pertains to a particular person or individual; leading to a uniquely distinguishable, and ideally memorable, impression, which needs management.
Impression management is a goal-directed conscious or unconscious process in which people attempt to influence the perceptions of other people about a person, object or event; they do so by regulating and controlling information in social interaction. It is usually used synonymously with Self-Presentation, in which a person tries to influence the perception of their image and reputation. The notion of impression management also refers to practices in professional communication and public relations. If it goes online it can be OIM.
In this regard, Reputation Management is the practice of understanding or influencing an individual's or business's reputation. Self-Presentation was originally coined as a public relations term, but advancement in computing, the internet and social media made it primarily an issue of search results. That’s why we come up with Online Identity Management (OIM) also known as online image management or online personal branding or Personal Reputation Management (PRM) is a set of methods for generating a distinguished presence of a person on the Internet.
