A rifle is a weapon primarily used for hunting food and can also be used as a defense weapon, when dealing with zombie people at a distance. Therefore, the use of a rifle would be the ideal weapon used for that particular situation. If there is no advance warning to an unknown visitor, then a shotgun would be the weapon to use.
