A Concert in Dance

The concert was called “A Concert In Dance”. The Stockton Dance Company set up the whole demonstration. The show was performed from February 28 to March 2. The show was preformed at Stockton College in the Performing Arts Center. The performance that will be talked about is My Shadow’s Ghost. Lauren Putty White created the choreography. The music that was selected was Efterlang: Himmelbjerget. Mark Mallett did lighting. While Henry van Kuiken was in charge of the costume design. The dancers that were in the performance were: Lauren Kropa, Jennifer Tatman, Kahra Woolverton, Kelsay Mauro, Aleesa Tucker, Danielle Rieger, Samiah Wade. This dance showed a type of struggle. The dance started off with a lone girl on the stage. She started on stage alone because it signified how she is the main character of the story. That shows that she is trying to repress all the bad things that happened in her past. Throughout the whole dance there was always the six other girls that would come out at random times. With everyone else coming and going on stage that signifies that we are there and apart of her but we are not real. That made it seem that they wanted to reassure to the one lone dancer that she isn’t always alone. That showed her fighting off her memories of the past and the memories trying to become apart of her. At the end she finally gets the courage to get rid of the memories and start a brand new chapter in her life. A lot of the moves were frequent. There were a lot of hand gestures that kept getting recurring. Along with that every one of the dancers had their own phrase to repeat. It kind of gives the dancers a personality. But with this dance a repeated phrase symbolized that they are apart of her. Each one of the girls had their own story that connected them to the main character. That’s why they had their own part of the dance that they repeated. One of the moves that stick out is the one where they come together in a straight diagonal line in the top left
