A Day to Remember
A day I will always remember is the first day of middle school, which was the first day of 6th grade. I was nervous and didn’t know what to expect, but I was also very excited at the same time. Everything was so new to me, the campus, the schedule, and the people. But the first day of middle school will always be a day I will remember.

It was the first day of the 6th Grade and I was very anxious. I had been waiting for that day all summer. It all started when I got of the school bus. The campus was very large, about three times larger than my elementary school. I did not know where to go at first, but then they had announced “all sixth graders report to the MPR”, I had known where that was because our orientation for 6th grade had been held there. In the MPR we had met our advisory teacher. Mine teacher was Ms. Willinger. In advisory she had given us our planners, and schedules, and all the other things we needed. I had never really had a planner to write my homework on or have to go to 7 different classes a day or have classes with different people. It was all very new.

Next, was my first period, which was my math class. I didn’t know anyone in that class except for my teacher, Mrs. Decker. First, she had made us fill out a worksheet about ourselves so she could get to know us better. Then, she let us take it home, so we could attach a picture of ourselves to the worksheet. Finally, our last activity was to play the name game. The directions were to form a circle and we go down the circle and say an adjective and our name, but the adjective had to start with the same letter that your name started with. The class played the game, unfortunately we didn’t finish the first day so we had to finish the second day.

Then, it was time for second period, which was science with Mr. Huffman. Mr. Huffman had just talked about the rules and what we were going learn for the first semester. He had talked about platetchtonics, earthquakes, and

I dreaded the alarm that woke me up at 6:30 in the morning. It was as loud as a screaming toddler that could be heard for miles. I groggily got out of bed and got ready for my first day of school. It was a weird feeling not putting on a uniform like I had been for the past nine years, but I also enjoyed that freedom. The nervousness became more and more intense as I could closer and closer to campus. When we arrived, I got out of the car, and watched my dad drive off to go take my younger sister to school. There was no going back now; I had no other choice than to walk through those doors. I felt like my throat was in my stomach. I noticed some familiar faces, and I walked towards them. While I was approaching my friends, a senior, facing toward me, walked passed. He must have been at least six feet tall, which was incredibly intimidating for me at just over five feet. I was not used to the fact that I’d potentially have classes with these giants. Additionally, the array of new teachers, and having to learn all of their teaching styles and things they did or did not tolerate was hard in…

By Friday of that week we were moved into a small apartment in Oak Grove and starting at Sacred Heart on Monday. I hadn’t eaten since Wednesday from all the stress and tears that I couldn’t make go away no matter what I tried. My first day was all a blur, I rarely ate anymore, attempting to fix what I thought was “wrong with me”. Sixth grade was over and I made some nice friends and thankfully the bullying and name calling stopped but the piercing thoughts stayed with me.…

Through all of the chaos, we made it to our stop, which happened to be the gym. We were all ushered into the bleachers so we could get briefed on our next 3 years in middle school. We all gladly took our seats and let the show begin. It was all a blur of boring and useless information. Now I wished I had listened to what they said, but oh well. When it was over we were removed from the gym and were told to go to our first core class. Getting there was very difficult. The rest of the day was filled with teachers telling us their expectations for the rest of the year, as well as boring information about…

The first day of sixth grade was a monumental day for me. I was being exposed to new teachers, new friends, and a new environment. When I arrived at school, the first thing I had to face was my locker. After multiple tries, the locker finally opened. The next sixth grade obstacle I had to face was choosing a seat to sit at. I awkwardly walked into math class, scanning the room for an open chair and decided to sit with a couple of my friends from fifth grade. One of the biggest struggles of the first day was finding my classes, as walking all around the school to get where I need to be was new to me. It took a lot of adjusting, as our grade had gone from being the big kids in…

Darling’s fifth grade class. Over the summer I had asked every PME friend of mine if they were in Mr. Darling’s class and every response was no. I walked into the room with shaky knees and sweaty hands. The constant thump from my butterflies flying around in my stomach would not diminish. As I stepped foot into the classroom and gazed upon my new classmates I couldn’t help but realize, I know roughly ten kids in this class. This couldn’t possibly be my class, there was no way they would stick a Pine Meadow student into a classroom overpowered with Oak Ridge Students. I sat down in a fury, steam effusing out of my ears. The first half of the day idled by painstakingly slow, I played icebreaker after icebreaker unable to make new friends due to my unwilling attitude. I told myself it was going to be the worst year of my life and it had only been three hours of class.…
