A New Middle East Fareed Zakaria is a writer, political scientist, and magazine and television news commentator. He was born and raised in Bombay, India, the son of a politically progressive parents were also practicing Muslim. Over the past years there have been several conflicts in the Middle East over who have dominated the nation of the Arabs. Zakaria writes this particular story to educate and persuade his readers that, there will never be peace in the Middle East as long as Western powers intervene into Arabs affairs. It is common knowledge that throughout history, western powers have colonized, occupied and exploited indigenous people in the name of national interest, national security, and manifest destiny. America has been a driving force in the Middle East with respect to supporting America's national interest. In an effort to do so, America has supported non-democratic governments and some governments that were not necessarily well respected in the Middle East. As a result of this, many in the Middle East are starting to question the motives of the United Stated and its desire to establish democracy in the Middle East now. According to Zakaria and his research, he stated that, "ever since the end of the cold war the, the U.S. has been a dominant and unrivaled power in the Middle East." so why now? Why such a sudden interest in the Arabs affair? Could it be for security purposes? Well, "in any event, the U.S. Became the dominant power, and most countries accommodated themselves to its priorities." American claim that is Manifest Destiny that the U.S settlers were destined to expand throughout the continent. Zakaria predicted that the Middle East will eventually move from a dictatorship government to a democratic government in order for the Arabs to be able to make their own decisions.
