Animal cruelty is still a huge issue in today’s society. By dictionary definition, “Animal testing is the use of non-human animals in experiments.” For years, doctors and scientist have used animals as a way of understanding their knowledge about how systems and organisms work. Although these procedures may seem very beneficial to the science community, I completely disagree.
I have been vegetarian since the age of nine, and believe that there are other options then damaging innocent creature in spite of societies well being. According to British law, any new drug must be tested on at least two different types of living mammals, and one must be a living non- rodent animal. All laws protect lab animals from cruelty during the experiments. Yet, this has not stopped some scientists from abusing animals. There are many pros and cons to animal testing however neither side seems to fully satisfy everyone. Animal are usually tested on to develop household products, agricultural chemicals, industrial chemicals, pesticides, paint and food additive. Some countries also experiment on animals for beauty products, but this is now illegal in the U.K. Animal testing has helped in creating vaccines against mumps, rabies, measles, and other diseases. Medication to fight off HIV and cancer all come down to animal testing as well as open heart surgery methods and organ transplants. This is the main reason why many scientists and members of the public support the decision. Nevertheless, the reaction from the animal can be different to humans so animal testing is unreliable. Animals are bound to be under stress due to the circumstances they are facing therefore, surely their reaction will not be the same as natural reaction.
During the process of the experimentation on the animals, many harmless animals are killed afterwards. The survivors are injured then imprisoned for the rest of their lives. The worst part is that not all the substances tested will see approval or consumption
