Communication Essay Communication can be defined as the interchange of thoughts, opinions, or information (Communication, n.d.). When done properly this exchange of ideas supports and enhances the flow of new concepts, visions, and emotions. However, when there is a breakdown of communication it gives rise to confusion, judgment, and hurt feelings. Miscommunication is capable of causing unnecessary obstacles in many types of relationships such as friendships, working associations, and particularly in intimate affairs. Close interaction, like personal companionship, thrives on good communication to grow and prosper. But because of the strong emotional feelings that come with intimacy, close relationships are a breeding ground for miscommunication. Romantic relationships are exhibited in books, movies, and television as entertainment for the audience. People love to observe these emotional roller coasters to see what will go wrong or how will they persevere through their struggle to make it work. One show that used this yo-yo type relationship for comedic relief is Friends. Friends is a situational comedy or sitcom about six friends making their way through life in New York. The show became one of the most popular sitcoms in the 90’s because of the lovable nature of the cast and because of the show’s on-again, off-again couple, Ross and Rachel. For ten seasons, Ross and Rachel had their share of ups and downs which mainly steamed from poor communication. On one particular episode of Friends, Ross and Rachel had been having problems due to Rachel’s new job. Ross become increasingly jealous of all the time she spent at work and tries to force himself into her new work life which did not sit well with Rachel. After Ross embarrasses Rachel at her job, they struggle through a huge fight after Rachel returns home from work. The fight escalates and Rachel finds herself overwhelmed by
