Drug Abuse
Drug abuse is a big problem in the United States which causes short term, long term and financial problems for many.
I. Introduction A. The title of my speech is drug abuse and I’m here to inform the problems of drugs. B. It is important to know the problems of drugs so you know not to try them or let anyone you know tries any. C. There are three main problems that drugs cause. They can cause you to go bankrupt, lose your good health for a short or long term period.
II. Body A. How costly can a drug habit be? 1. For a single individual, a drug habit can cause them to become completely broke. either they can spend all they earn or lose their job because of the drugs. 2. “Approximately 181 billion dollars a year are spent in the United States on illegal drugs and approximately 193 billion dollars a year are spent in the United States on tobacco,” according to Kelly Wand in her book entitled Tobacco and Smoking. (Wand) 3. “Men 18-25 is the prime target for the tobacco company because of their influence on younger children and their consumer habits,” According to Robert Kline in an article called “Why are men still smoking” in the May 2008 edition of Men’s Health. (Thorton) 4. There are four different types of drugs: stimulants, depressants, hallucinogenics and opioids. All of them have different effects; all of them are harmful to the body. B.
