What is an extracurricular activity? Extracurricular activities are those that fall outside the realm of normal curriculum of school or university education, performed by students. In Trinidad and Tobago school's there is access to many extracurricular activities such as swimming, running, football, music, dance and many more. There are benefits of a student doing extracurricular activities such as making a contribution. Extracurricular activities allows a student to make a contribution in some way. It shows that they are getting away from just thinking about themselves and contributing to something else. Another benefit of a student getting involved in extracurricular activities is that it looks good on a college application. Most colleges do not only take grades but they take a look at extracurricular activities that students are involved in. There are many benefits to extracurricular activities and access to them are not difficult in Trinidad And
Tobago, but what impact does doing these activities have on ones academic performance. This year, in Trinidad And Tobago, a total of 13,724 students sat the CSEC examination with 8,642 drawn from public schools and 5,080 from private schools. An analysis of the result showed that the overall pass rate at the General and Technical proficiencies for Grades one to three was 60.21% as supposed to 59.31% in 2013, with the overall 2014 Grades One to Four pass rate was 88.44%. These are decent results showing more than half the population got Graded One to Three, but how much of these student did extracurricular activities? Does extracurricular activities do more harm than?
