I know why the caged bird sings By Maya Angelou
The novel I know why the caged bird sings is about the triumphs of a young woman. Maya Angelou or Marguerite Ann Johnson is the main character of the book and she endures quite a few problems. She is a dynamic character through her changes in heart, faith, and power.
Maya Angelou is a woman who was constantly beat down for being African American and for her social class. This isn’t fair but it was the way the world functioned back then. She constantly beat herself up and couldn’t move past this. She wished she were rich, white, and beautiful. She then realizes that her all on her own, just the way she is, is perfect. She then has a change of heart at the end of the novel even though individuals were very malicious to her.
Later in the book Angelou begins to lose faith in the aspect of hoping things would get better. She was raped, abused, and abandon and it left an emotion toll on her forever. Although this was all very tragic, Maya Angelou learned to triumph over her problems. She began to no longer dwell on the past and began to focus on her successes and her future. She regained her faith and renewed herself as a woman entirely.
Lastly her overall strength as a human being and child of god changes completely form the beginning to the end of the book. She is no longer that physically and emotional week little girl with her handed down dress. She blossoms into a wonderful, beautiful, highly intellectual, woman. This was the biggest change of all because it was a complete turnaround of who she used to be.
Maya Angelou has written a fantastic novel about her life that really demonstrated some fantastic lessons and morals to be learned. It clearly exemplified her dynamic change from beginning to end and really painted the picture of what it was like to live back in her day. I could only imagine how hard it must have been to live in her shoes, but I’m glad she became the person that she is
