M&M Lab Report
Mini Lab Report
M&M Lab
Purpose:
The purpose of this experiment was to find, record, and compare the amount of each color of M&M’s in a bag.
Hypothesis:
I predict that the M&M color that will have the largest amount will be the yellow M&M’s. After yellow I predicted the next highest color would be brown. Then following brown would be blue, green, red, and orange.
Materials:
* Plate/Paper Towel * Bag of M&M’s * Calculator * Pencil and Table to Record Data/Worksheet
Procedure:
1. Open your bag of M&M’s. Be careful to keep them all on the paper towel. 2. Divide the M&M’s by color. 3. Count the total number of M&M’s in your bag. Record your results in the data table in the row of your group’s data. 4. Count the number of M&M’s of each color. Record the results in the data table in the row of your group’s data. 5. Calculate the percent of each color. (To find percent of a certain color, take the number of M&M’s of that color and divide that by the total number of M&M’s in the bag.) when you do the math, you will get a decimal. Move the decimal two (2) places to the right to convert to a percentage. Round to one place after the decimal. Record your results in the data table in the row of your group’s data.
Data:
Color | Amount | Blue | 26 | Orange | 10 | Green | 6 | Yellow | 5 | Brown | 4 | Red | 4 |

Conclusion: This experiment was conducted to determine which M&M color had the highest quantity in each individual bag. I predicted that yellow would have the most, with the colors trailing in the order of brown, blue, green, red, and orange. It turned out that my prediction was incorrect and blue had the highest quantity (in my bag). As represented in the table and the graph it shows that blue had the most 26 with green in second (6). Behind green was orange with 10, then yellow with 5. Trailing all with 4 were brown, blue, and red. Our total of 55

    The purpose of this report is to examine the packaging process of M & M candies for a 1.69oz bag. This process is achieved by way of using random sampling to gather data on the number of colored M&M candies (blue, orange, green, yellow, red, brown,) as well as testing the sample proportion / sample mean, and constructing a 95% confidence interval. This report should provide a better understanding as to the methods used behind packing M&M candies.…

    The results would be cataloged and compiled with and a mean score for each group. An analysis of variance (ANOVA) would be performed to compare the data between the three groups. Additional analysis utilizing a two-way chi-square formula to determine statistical differences between the variables of the three groups would be required utilizing the appropriate software. Associations between variables would be calculated using contingency coefficient analysis. Minimum statistical power would be set at 0.05 for Type I errors and 0.20 for Type II errors. The data scientist would be responsible for completing the data analysis once collected and cataloged.…

    The materials that were used throughout this experiment consisted of different brands of potato chips, graph paper, a rolling pin and sunlight. The first step was to find the serving size listed on the back of the bag of chips, write down the serving size on a notepad. Next find the total fat per serving for each brand of chips in the grams. Count out a number of chips equal to the serving size for that brand of chips. Next place the chips on a sheet of graph paper. Roll over the chips several times with a rolling pin. Remove the graph paper and tape the graph paper to a window.…

    Furthermore, the largest percentage error of 45.2 % occurred with a handful size of 90 marked seeds, which is clearly higher than the percentage error of 44.5% for the handful size of 30 marked seeds and higher than 34.5% for the handful size of 120 marked seeds. Therefore, it can be verified that the largest sample size of a handful with 150 marked seeds resulted in the most accurate representation of the actual population of 5403 with a percentage error of 13.3%, but it has to be mentioned that also a smaller sample size with 60 marked seeds resulted in an accurate representation of the actual population of the seeds with a percentage error of 13.5%. Also, the highest percentage error to the actual population did not occur for the smallest sample size with 30 marked seeds it indeed occurred for the sample size of a handful with 90-marked seeds. Overall, the prediction that the largest sample size will result in the most accurate representation of the actual amount of seeds in the bag is true to some extent, because there was also an average estimation answer of the handful size with 60 marked seeds, which was close to…

    The group picked an area to walk in a straight line making sure that it would not interfere with any other group’s straight line to prevent collecting the same data. Each member of every group spread out 5 meters from each of their own group members still making sure not to intersect with another group. In a line, the group moved forward in a straight line, counting the numbers of each juvenile C Gigantea, Ferocactus Wislizeni, and Ambrosia Deltoidea that were associated with nurse plants and those that were not. We determined whether each species was juvenile or not by measuring each to see whether it was 30’ or under. For each one found the group members recorded it down tallying them all up as they went along. All the groups came together comparing and sharing data to get total numbers of each species. One group calculated the percent coverage, which would then be used to calculate the chi squared ((obs.-exp.) ^2/ exp.)…

    There are some questions I have asked myself in order to put together this whole experiment and my hypothesis. How does the color of some popcorns affect how long it takes them to cook or be popped and why the different colors affect them? Which brand could possibly be cooked the fastest and taste the best based on the same exact ingredients added to every different brand and cooked the same way? Which brand perhaps could be the healthiest one to eat rather then the worst one for you with the same ingredients added? Which brand gets the most kernels popped out of the batch cooked at the same exact time and temperature used in all experiments? Which brand of popcorn based of all variables of the brands comes out the best cooked due to the same procedures in each?…
