Strengths
As its name implies, Lastminute.com is good for late deals. For hotels, this can be in the form of "top secret hotels", where discounts of up to 50 per cent are possible if one willing to book blind. The organization also impresses for the sheer amount of stuff it offers. As with its rival (expedia) online travel agents; package holidays, flights and car hire are just part of offers that can be booked on the site. It also offers spa breaks, restaurant deals, theme park packages, "experiences" (everything from indoor skydiving to chocolate making). As such, it scores highly for inspiration. Prominent on the home page are sections titled "Thinking of going away?" and "Thinking of going out?" – with suggestions to the questions posed.
Weaknesses
The pitfall with Lastminute.com is that, in trying to do everything, doesn't do any one thing outstandingly well. For example, there are better websites for hotel deals (Laterooms.com), flights (Expedia.co.uk), and restaurant bookings (Toptable.com), while Superbreak.com is more user-friendly for theatre breaks. Also, it is also of fact that, having so many diverse options presented to a visitor on the home page - Tunisia holidays, Alton Towers, Top Gear Live, afternoon tea for two, cupcakes and cocktails, city breaks, Eurostar to Brussels etc - can in fact be overwhelming. The visitor may end up being paralysed by the choice, and not sort out anything at all.
