The Similarities between Abrahamic Religions

What are the similarities in beliefs and values among judaism, christianity, and islam, and to what extent?

The religions of our world today have a myriad of origins throughout history. The three most similar religions are Judaism, Christianity and Islam, also known as the Abrahamic religions. These religions were created fairly recently, within a short timespan and within a certain distance of each other compared to other ancient religions and cults. I believe that Judaism, Christianity and Islam are very similar in beliefs and values despite their numerous disagreements on minor details. The three religions are based off the same background story, they have the same values and belief in a judgement day. Firstly, all three of the religions are based off the same story and beliefs, despite disagreements on minor details. All three Abrahamic religions are monotheistic, worshipping the one God who appeared to Abraham; this is the reason why they are called Abrahamic religions. However, christians believe god is "The Trinity", existing in three forms at once, while muslims strictly believe in God as one. They also all acknowledge the existence of Jesus, but with major disagreements on his importance. Christians believe that jesus was divine and a prophet, while Muslims believe he was just a prophet and Jews believing he was simply an impostor who claimed to be divine. Furthermore, the prophets that the three religions acknowledge are almost the same, with disputes on the most known ones. The recent branching of the Abrahamic religions Judaism, Christianity and Islam, means they share very similar root values. Second, Abrahamic religions have very similar root values. The most essential of which is to treat others as you would want to be treated. This value appears in most other religions and atheism, and sometimes extends to treatment of everything alive. Another common value is that of prayer. All three believe

In reviewing the scripture readings presented for this lesson, each religion has one intrinsic similarity; that is the belief in God. Where both Islam and Judaism view God as one entity, Christians believe in the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), ("Islam, Judaism and," 2004-2013). Review of the scripture readings show that both Judaism and Christianity are similar in that they preach an expression of kindness to strangers. Whereas Christianity invites strangers to join and become a Christian, Judaism expresses kindness with separation. Judaism allows observation of their practice but not inclusion. Islam is not similar to either Christianity or Judaism as it suggests “..take not Jews and Christians as friends..” (“The Koran Interpreted”).…

Although these religions are in constant dispute with one another, they have more in common than most people know about. Both of these religions trace the genealogy of their beliefs, and the foundation of their beliefs back to Abraham. He is their physical common denominator. Both Judaism and Christianity tell the story of Abraham. During a time when the majority of society was worshipping many gods, Abraham believed that he had heard the voice of the one true living God; who call Abraham to worship Him and Him alone. That is why Abraham is considered by theologians and scholars in Judaism and Christianity to be the father of monotheism; thus the next common denominator between the two religions, the belief in one true and more importantly living God. According to http://www.essortment.com/all/callabraham_rssf.htm Abraham was 75 when he first heard the voice of God. According to www.jewfaq.org/origins.htm he was born in 1800 BC, if there information is correct this would roughly place the start of monotheism at about 1725…

One of the reasons that Judaism and Christianity are so similar is that Christianity began in the first few decades of the first century AD as a type of Judaism (Deming, 58). All religions seem to have similarities because it seems that they took some ideas from another religion and built it into their religion back when they started out. We can always compare and contrast the different world religions, some will be more comparable than others as is anything in life. People are changing with the world and with them the religions change a little bit too, the foundations and believes stay the same but they change to better fit the…

Christianity was created to fix a “problem” that Jesus though Judaism had. Islam was a religion with more resemblance to Judaism then Christianity. Islam fixed a problem in Judaism that Muhammad thought was there. The three Abrahamic religions, Judaism, Islam, and Christianity are similar, for example in their praying procedures. But they have some major differences, including their founding and their opinions on heaven.…
