The Importance of Teaching Sign Language to Children Essay Example
Is it important to teach children sign language? Why?
Yes, it is. It is important to teach children sign language because it gives many advantages. We all know that humans interact with one another through communication in the form of language. It does not matter whether they are abnormal, for instance deaf, or normal. Communication occurs both verbally and non-verbally that is by writing, reading, sign, symbol or sign language. Both normal and abnormal people are able to communicate. Abnormal people use sign language to communicate. Not only deaf/abnormal people who can use sign language but also normal children/babies. Sign language is the language that gave priority to manual communication, body language and lip motion, rather than voice, to communicate. Sign language is usually combining hand shapes, orientation and movement of the hands, arms and body, and facial expressions to express their thoughts, so sign language is including various kinds of body and facial movements. In daily, without we realize it that children use sign language actually. Children get used to using sign language as part of the communication process, for instance they know how to wave his hand to say goodbye or moving hands which means no. Sign language for children is a language that is taught to children in order they are able to tell what they need and want to. Before children learn how to talk, they rely on crying to get their wants and needs across to their parents. Sign language is taught to children before they are able to speak verbally. Before they can speak verbally, actually children have had unpredictable and greater comprehension. Therefore, the children’s parents are necessary to maximize their potential by teaching sign language. Through sign language, children can communicate with people around them. They can tell if they are hungry, thirsty, cold, heat, and so forth. In addition, we can also communicate the word "no" when a child puts something in his mouth or the
