My essay will be on the thesis topic of; Justice and fairness are very elusive concepts in
To Kill a Mockingbird, yet Atticus and Scout continue to believe in them. Although the
tragedy of the Tom Robinson case is cause for pessimism, Atticus and Scout maintain
hope for justice and fairness through their ability to recognize positive traits in the people
of Maycomb. My supporting arguments that support this thesis are; Atticus believes that
all people should be treated equal/same; Scout is too innocent to see a huge difference in
people and the last argument, Atticus has raised his children not to judge people.
My first supporting argument is, Atticus believes that all people should be treated the
same. This is pretty obvious in the book because, if he didn’t think that people should be
treated the same then he wouldn’t have defended and believed Tom Robinson for all the
time he did. He has very strong values and lives by them. He also sees no problem with
his children growing up and becoming accepting of other races. He let his children go to
the black church with their housemaid Cal and he didn’t hesitate because, he knew that
