Argumentative Essay

The act of abortion should be banned because it deliberately destroys a human life. I believe that every form of the act, without any exceptions, should be outlawed simply because abortion is merely "murdering out of convenience". From the moment that a child is conceived, no matter how small or underdeveloped he or she may seem, that child is a human being that is a separate part of its mother and a human entity all its own. And the taking of a human life by another human being is easily defined as homicide, which under other circumstances would be punishable by law. Many people try to rationalize their actions by saying that their abortion actually contributes to society and that “if legal abortion were not available, more women would experience unwanted childbearing” and that “mothers with unwanted births suffer from higher levels of depression” thus resulting in the abuse of their “unwanted children”. (Source: PlannedParenthood.com; Barber, et al., 1999) However, women have the opportunity to opt for an adoption for their unborn child, not only letting an innocent child live but giving another family the prospect of having a very wanted addition to their household. Would we “eliminate” a child simply because he or she is unwanted by their parents? No, our society would find an alternative home for the child while caring for him or her in federal funded homes until a proper caretaker is obtained. Aborting an unborn infant is essentially the same as murdering an unwanted child who lives outside of the womb. Both are seen by their parent(s) as “valueless” individuals in society and an inconvenience to the parents themselves. Yet the law in the United States says that the abortion of a baby up to the point of partial birth is legal, except when “the baby is delivered past the [baby's] navel . . . outside the body of the mother," or "in the case of head-first presentation, the entire fetal head is outside the body of the mother,"
