1.The learner will know the main stages of child and young person development.
The learner can describe the expected pattern of children and young people's development from birth to 19 years, to include: A) Physical development From birth to 1 year they are developing fast physical skills. When they are born they have no control over their bodies. They then start to do movements like sucking and grasping they need their skills to survive. They will then start to learn to control their bodies so by 1 year they have started to develop crawling or rolling. From 1to 3 years they will continue to grow and develop quickly. Most of them should be walking and able to control their movements. At 1-2 years they should be using there hands for lots of things from clapping, holding things, feeding themselves and getting dressed. They will also be able to play with a ball. This is what we call gross and fine motor skills. For gross motor skills they will be using there arms and legs for throwing, walking and running and fine motor skills are using there fingers from using a pencil trying to use a knife and fork also doing up their clothes. They will also start to develop there balance, coordination and stability. By the time they are 2-3 years they will start to do more such as riding a bike, going up stairs on there own, playing ball games, using playground equipment, using crayons and much more. They will also carry on the task till they can do it all by themselves like playing a ball game like catch, if they drop the ball they will just pick it up and try again until they can catch it with out dropping it. Which makes them feel so good and happy. They should at this age be starting to master the art of toilet training. From 4-6 years they have just started school and should know most of there basic motor skills, their coordination should be growing more confidante and have more control
