Thesis: With the advancement of 3-D printing technology these printers can and will change our lives in the manufacturing and medical industries.
Attention: Imagine a future were you are able to simply download data and print a phone case, shoes, glasses, cars, and even organs. Well you don’t have to imagine this is a reality and is being done today.
Relevance: This technology has been around for 30 years, but is just started filtering into the public arena. We are living in the beginning of a time that people will look back on as a revolution. (Harouni, 2011)
Credibility: I have invested $2,000 in the stock market. After doing extensive research over the past couple of years on this technology three quarters of my investments are in 3D printing technology.
Preview: You’re probably thinking right now, how is this technology going to create a revolution? (1) Understanding the process of 3-D printing is just the beginning. The applications for this technology in the (2) manufacturing industry and (3) medical industry can and are already changing our lives.
BODY
I. Process of 3-D printing. Traditionally we have made thing from doorknobs to scalpels to engine parts, by cutting, drilling, shaving, or molding a material to create the desired shape. This has all changed due to a process called additive manufacturing or 3-D printing.
A. To use one of these printers you must have something to print.
1. Explain the software that must be used to create the correct data that a printer can read. (Fleming, 2013)
a. Using computer-aided design (CAD) software, helps when determining the structural integrity you can expect,
