8th Hour Narrative
“Mom come on, enough pictures already!” I shouted as I was going to be late to the first day of high school.
“Okay, okay, let’s go, get into the car,” my mom said. As we arrived to Craig feeling the jitters, afraid I may get lost or beat up, Jayden text me “meet in the 100 hallway”. As If I knew where that was I had thought to myself. Of course, she was waiting for me at the front doors. We had said our hellos and told all of our worries. Then, we split apart to our classes and would soon reunite for our 8th hour class. By the time 8th hour had come we were already feeling more comfortable with our new school and the teachers. English 9 honors was our 8th hour and the teacher's name was Miss Tucker. She seemed very nice but, there

It’s the first day of 8th grade and everything was normal, the bus ride was the same as the year's previous ride. High schoolers were yelling at the little kids to sit in the front of the bus and the elementary kids yelling at each other across the seats. The closer the bus got to school the colder I got. I was pulling my sweatshirt closer around me to try to get warmer but that wasn't working; It was like the cold was under my clothes seeping into my bones.…

32 “Well its actually happening ma’, I’m goin’ back to school.”Rufus said. “I want you to know, I truly am proud of you Rufus.” His mother replied. Curtis and Janet went to a different school then Rufus but he still walked them to school then walked himself to school. On his way to school a car followed him very slowly but Rufus kept walking. When he got to school it looked the same on the outside that it always had. Rufus pushed open the doors at Searingtown School and yelled “I’m back!” All of his friends ran over to hug him. He went down to the office to get a tour he thought he didn’t need because he remembered every single solitary thing about this place. While the tour was going on everything going on was a blur. He looked left, right and left again, admiring the changes the school had made. “Wow” he sighed. “Is there a problem Rufus?” the tour guide asked. Rufus answered, “When I was here the wall paint was all chipped, there were broken windows and holes in the walls.” “Oh ok, well that concludes our tour and this door on your right is your first period class.” The tour guide replied. Rufus walked in and sat at an available seat at the back of the class room. He opened his notebook and took notes even though he didn’t understand anything that was going on. By the time 5th period came around it was time for lunch he was starving. All of his friends called him over and asked him to sit with him. Momma didn’t make him a big lunch because they didn’t have that much food in the house and then needed to split it 3 different ways. Allison who used to have a big crush on Rufus sat right next to him. Mitchell and Charlie sat across from him and Christina, Alisha and Sammy sat around them. When the bell rang he went to his locker and when he got to class he looked out the window and saw the same car that followed him to school. The only person he thought of was Simon. But he didn’t have a car? Rufus ran to the office to explain the…

As the school cleared out in an incredible 7 minutes, teachers and few students were left in the school gathering their things. We stopped in a Language Arts teacher’s class. The teacher, Mrs. Kelly Pederson, who looked as if she was going to rip all of her hair out and possibly already got a head start, gladly spoke to us not only about her IB students but about her 9th grade students as well.…

My heart raced from the ridiculous amount of coffee I had consumed that morning. I tentatively stepped into the dark, empty classroom and took a seat in the second row. As an English major, I resented the fact that I was required to take US History 201. I disliked history, and I heard rumors that my professor, Dr. Grimm, was a tough grader. The only contingent that caused me to feel slightly happy was the fact that I would be in the same class as Hannah Colasurdo, my longtime best friend. I had known Hannah since I was ten years old, and she had been there for me though my best and worst moments. Little did I know that this history class would cause me to fall to one of the lowest points of my entire life.…

A week later I had returned to school, and it was like walking into a brand new atmosphere. Dirty looks were replaced by smiles and sneers exchanged with hellos. I had even gotten an invitation from Keri Mahan to sit with her and her friends in the lunchroom—which I accepted with a bit of caution. But after I had sat down with them, I quickly realized that none of them had seemed to remember the past all too well or how they’d treated me. They just accepted me as the new girl from Alabama, and that was fine by me.…

When August of sophomore year rolled around and I began my classes, I did not expect all that I would encounter in my English class. From the beginning, this class proved to be more than just exceptional literature lessons. I have been homeschooled since kindergarten, and since I began high school, I have participated in many small classes lead by teachers of my community. This particular class, presented by one of my favorite teachers, Mrs. Song, changed the way I view the world, and allowed me to transition from childhood to adulthood within my culture. As the class proceeded, Mrs. Song became a substantial influence to me, and she mentored me in innumerable ways.…
