A Hero's Journey Narrative
All I ever wanted to do was to see where I came from. I have spent my entire life working on a time machine to send me to 1919 and back. The time machine was modeled after a car with rockets. How you get the car able to time travel is you have to get the car going 100 miles per hour, then you push a button, and then where you want to go. When it was time to test it out I brought it to the highway and got it going 100 miles per hour, pushed the button, and thought where and when I wanted to go, it didn't work. I brought it back to the garage where I was working on it and figured out that I didn't connect the button. I knew that the British ruled Ireland. My great great grandpa told me that the people in Ireland wanted to be free. The Irish were also scared because if you supported the rebels or believed in what they believed in. They also knew that they would not win if they didn't fight back. I wanted to see what kind of artillery they had, so I went to their armory. By the way the armory looked they weren't prepared for this war. They only had a few shotguns and a couple of revolvers. The person there told me that they were relying on raids for guns and ammo. I felt bad for them. The final thing I wanted to know was why you would risk your life in the war. My great, great, grandfather told me that they wanted a better future for themselves and their children. He said that their government was terrible and they wanted their own government. He had a serious look on his face and said that it was what keep them going knowing that they might be free one day. I sat there for a while thinking about what I just heard. When I went back to my time it was harder and I didn't want to be here. The words of my great great grandfather stuck in my head. When I had children I told them my stories and they didn't believe me but they were kind. When I was old and couldn't walk I could hear my great great grandfather telling me the things he knew.
