A Legitimate Christian Means To Be A Legitimate Christian
From a biblical perspective, salvation is something that a person who truly believes in God and obeys His commandments will always have, if his or her repentance is genuine in the heart. “For the scripture says, “whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame” (Romans 10: 11). I believe this scripture means that whoever believes in God, will have a good standing with God and will be protected by the power of God. However, I believe if a person truly wants to receive salvation from God, he or she must be a legitimate Christian. A legitimate Christian is a person who doesn’t just believe in God, but they walk with God. Every chance that a true Christian gets to spread the word of God; they will use that opportunity to inform their brothers

A great chasm exists that separates unbelievers from believers1. An example of this chasm is presented in the Gospel of Luke, “And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off and Lazarus in his bosom.”2 The chasm is presented in the “afar off” statement. This chasm, as pointed out by David Wheeler and Richard Leach, is what makes evangelism necessary. Essentially, every Christian is to seek a way to bridge these chasms bringing the unbeliever face-to-face with their Creator3. In order to perform this great task, and the task was as great in the Apostles’ day as today, “Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest”4 the Christian servant today must rely on the Lord in every aspect and seek out opportunities to present Christ to those around him. Seeing then that there is such great work ahead, and the laborers have been assigned their task, “For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him”5, the only success to be found is through sharing the faith by the Word of God through the Spirit…

This brings me to my final point. We are saved from our sins by faith. When we hear the gospel, we must have faith and believe that the word is true. Then must trust in the Lord our God, fully. The final act involves repentance. This does not just merely mean to feel sorry for what we have done. We have to actually have a “change of mind” and turn from our wicked…

John 8:12 says, When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." If you believe in God, and follow what His plans are for you, He will only give you things to help you and make you prosperous, never things to harm you. John 14:6 says “ I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to my Father, except through me.” Basically, if you want to have eternal life there is no other way to do so unless you have faith in God, and believe His Word. If a man does not believe in God, and doesn’t follow in His ways, he makes up his own rules, his own ideas of how life should be lived and sets up his own failures. The main reason we were created was to fellowship with God, and worship Him. When man doesn’t have a relationship with God, he feels an emptiness and is dissatisfied. He can not be truly content with his life unless he has the Holy Spirit working in him. To be saved by God, you have to accept that God is who He says He is and accept Him as your savior, then you have to repent and confess your sins to God. God is very forgiving, and He says if you confess all your sins to Him he will forgive you. After you do all that, you are born again, and have started your relationship with God. In the book Praxis they say that “The new life God brings about is truly an amazing act of His graciousness and…

A time comes in everybody's life when they need to be "saved." When this happens a spiritual bond is formed within that individual. In Langston Hughes' essay, "Salvation," that bond is broken because Langston isn't truthfully saved. When he doesn’t see Jesus in the church at the…

The poverty rate in Memphis is an issue which emanates passion on the inside of my soul. It is evident how poverty influences Memphis in a plethora of ways. Poverty creates a ripple effect which trickles over into the crime rate, education levels and the overall quality of life in the city. There is a sect in the city where poverty has become the norm. Generation after generation the expectation is to remain in the same predicament as their predecessors.…

Salvation is much more than just words uttered. True faith in Jesus, and Him alone, and repentance is what is taught in the New Testament. Emphasis on repentance is forefront of the message of John the Baptist, Peter, and Jesus. Fay’s question number 5 puts importance on John 1:12, “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, the gave the right to become children of God.” Fay writes, “I cannot emphasize how important prayer is at this moment.” More could be added to the 4th question, “Are you willing to surrender your life to Jesus Christ.” This would be the appropriate area to add more details concerning repentance in this student’s…

ETERNAL SECURITY (ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED) DR. LEMONS SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY RELI 4350 01 The doctrine of eternal security or (once saved always saved)has been at the center of the discussion of salvation. While we will look at the theological beliefs and frame works of someof our church fathers, some of our contemporary Theologians and Pastors, we will primarily focus on key biblical passages that seem to speak on both sides of the issue. I am a born-again believer who have been saved for 21 years, ministering for 19 years, and now is the Pastor of a local Baptist Church. I chose this topic because I wrestled with this question myself when I was first saved. However I am now convinced that I could never lose what was eternally given to me. Let me start out by saying that most people who believe that you can lose your salvation generally have similar denominational back grounds. Some of those denomination are Pentecostals, Church of God in Christ, Church of Christ, Methodists, and Wesleyans. Mostly Pentecostal and the Holiness Churches have this idea that even though you are saved,if you sin too much or if you do not repent before you die you will be lost. It is almost like a works based faith. I believe that this struggle begins within the mind of individuals who may be genuinely saved but take for granted the profession of others they may know or others who go to church alongside them and for some reason fall away from the faith, fall into gross sin, or simply stop going to church and the result in their minds is that you can lose your salvation. But who can really say that these individuals were saved to begin? I believe in most of the five points of Calvinism and I believe in most of the Arminius views and we will look at these views first as we continue. We will look at other church teachings that I believe contribute to this on going debate such as (easy believism, works based, and lordship salvation). There are two main view points that we will explore;…
