In this stage people come together and expectations and the purpose of the group is clouded in uncertainty. No one is really considered the leader of the group at this point. Behavior is greatly observed between team members to determine what is acceptable. This stage will be relatively short because soon the group will begin to function and devise ideas and suggestion for attacking the problem or task.
Storming is the next stage the team will experience. This stage does cause some conflict within the team because there is no real chosen leader. In this stage the members of the team will accept the group and start to function within the team. However, the members of the team will show some resistance because groups or teams limit individuality and require unity to work efficiently. Within a short period of time there will be a leadership established with in the group and the members of the team will follow the chosen

Depending on the purpose of the group and time span of the group, this stage will vary. Some groups form for the purpose of completing short-term tasks, while others carry out long-term initiatives. Regardless of the time frame, groups should be commended on their areas of success and constructively identify areas that need improvement. It is our experience that different individuals can be grouped together on several different tasks. If the adjourning stage is handled properly, these individuals will carry a good attitude and level of camaraderie into their next group

    Bruce Tuckman has a theory which contains of four stages; these are forming, storming, norming and performing. His theory is about group development. The first stage is forming, this is when a group is reliant on one particular leader, if the leader is not there and someone else tries to take charge then the confusion starts. The leader makes sure every individual is aware of their role, if the leader does not make them aware, then their roles and responsibilities are unclear. For example in a class room everyone will be speaking to each other, when the teacher comes in and tells everyone to settle down then they will do so. The second stage is storming, at this stage everyone hasn’t settled into a task, they are all busy chatting amongst their selves and deciding who should be in charge. Decisions don’t come easily within a group it takes some time to come to an agreement. You start to form your own cliques and groups. People in the group may challenge each other in order to come out on top. Being focused it top priority for every individual, concentrating on achieving their goals and not being distracted by relationships and emotional issues, to enable progress to be made you may have to compromise within the group members. The third stage is Norming, this is when all members of the group have come to agreement on their roles and have accepted their individual responsibilities. Big decisions are made amongst group agreement were as minor decisions may be given to individuals or small groups within the whole group. Within the group commitment is getting stronger and unity is made everyone has a clear picture of what is happening. Now all the problems are over fun and social activates can now take place within the group and the leader has now earned every members respect and trust.     Every team goes through the five stages of team development. First, some background on team development. The first four stages of team growth were first developed by Bruce Wayne Tuckman and published in 1965. His theory, called "Tuckman's Stages" was based on research he conducted on team dynamics. He believed that these stages are inevitable in order for a team to grow to the point where they are functioning effectively together and delivering high quality results. In 1977, Tuckman, jointly with Mary Ann Jensen, added a fifth stage to the 4 stages: "Adjourning." The adjourning stage is when the team is completing the current project. After reading and reviewing the information provided there are many things that were very important. When it comes to the five stages of development they include forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning. Each of these stages placed in important role in development. However, what defines a group groups are two or more individuals that come together for the same reasons. They can be formal or informal. Groups are formed for social identity and the development of emotional reaction exists when a group fails or succeed. This helps members identify who they are and where they fit in. As the stages of development the first stage show management that the forming stage you can expect employees to start to see themselves as a group. Next the storming stage is when members begin to disagree about who will be in charge. When in the norming dates is a step the members behavior consists of cooperation and working towards a common goal. The performing stage is when members begin to work successfully with great energy. And in the adjourning stage, which is the final stage, shows what happens to the members at the end of the group and they resume their normal responsibility as these stages show what to expect when groups are formulated. As many react differently these stages are for people with a strong sense of purpose. As we take a look at group properties we have roles, standards that are acceptable behavior. Status is a social rank given to each member who exhibit different roles, bright, and ritual to differentiate themselves. The size of a group does matter it shows the overall behavior of the group. Smaller groups tend to be faster, while larger groups are better problem solver. Cohesiveness shows that members tend to get along and are motivated to stay in the group.
