Acting Research
The production culture I have chosen to research is the actor. The category of actor has always intrigued me and I believe this would be a great opportunity to learn more about the field. To research acting I would have to go to a performance or go on a set of a production that a theatrical performance is taking place. Currently I’m studying acting for film and television at Relativity School as an acting major. I have learned much of the art acting since attending the school and how the field work, but I think I will learn more about what actually happens if I go on set and watch how it is run. Actors usually work in the theater and digital (televisions, film and online) medium.
A specific location that I could visit is the Art of Acting Studio, which is a studio that focus on the teaching of the art of acting and is location where many performances take place. The studio is located in Los Angeles, which will be easy to travel since I also live in Los

As an actor I have always been interested in drama and story, and I plan on performing in many different genres. Acting is an art of storytelling and I believe that story telling has been in human nature since the beginning of time. I think it’s awesome for me to join the narrative of the human culture and continue to tell stories. Acting is used in many different mediums for many different purposes. Acting is living through story and I have a deep connection with that.
I plan on interviewing my becoming the Character teacher Sean Spann, who has many years of experience as an actor. Classical acting is the original form of acting in movies and plays that was originally an acting system created by Russian actor and director Constantin Stanislavski during the late 1800s, and was very popular in the early to middle 1900s. The system that he created consisted of both script analysis and personal exploration in order to find “the truth” of a prat, or what would be considered truthful with the actor when playing the part either onstage or on the air (tv show/ movie). The system was based on expressing and responding the actor’s body to detailed character portrayal, as well as addressing the creation of an inner life. Mr. Stanislavski’s guide to acting and his ideas and beliefs on how to become a great method actor were published in a book in 1936 called An Actor Prepares. It included certain steps such as, “an emphasis on physical acting, or physical actions. Imagination as a way to find character and relate to other actors. The super-objective and ‘through line of actions’ in analyzing the script, including the main essence. Exploring subtext. Personalizing through affective memory--from real-life and imagined experiences.” He also included a couple of “games” for the actors to prpeare before rehearsal or auditioning, such as doing improvisation in certain situations, and having…

I am inspired by those that act because the actors are challenging themselves and playing a role that they had most likely never played before. As the audience, I am absorbed into the characters’ world and how the little mannerisms of each character complete the play as a whole. I am an absolute fanatic for theatrical performances, whether it be a play, musical, or dance. I think that performers have to express themselves effortlessly, unbeknownst to the audience. By experiencing it firsthand through pit orchestra, I was fully able to appreciate how much time was put into the preparation of of a performance. As a student at Wellesley, I will be frequenting the musicals and plays performed by the theater because the fine arts is what fuels my imagination. Also through participating in pit, I learned that many, many hours are put into creating a fantastic, emotion-wrought performance. It is not just the actors that create the atmosphere, it is also the musicians. Along with the actors and possibly the music, there are more people that put the time into making the play “perfect”, something that the audience usually does not know or does not see. For this reason, I am very excited to learn that there is a theater (aka a place to watch plays/musicals/perform as a pit member) because whether I…

After reading the first part of Respect for Acting by Uta Hagan I have a newfound respect for actors and all that they go through to obtain the true character in which they are playing. As someone who has never neither acted nor read anything about performing, this has opened my eyes to all of the work that these actors go through on a daily basis for the sheer enjoyment of their audience. While reading over the chapters in this book there are a few key concepts that I found to be interesting.…

I started theatre in sixth grade, when I was in the ensemble of the Music Man at CAST Summer. From there, I gradually became more interested and I started auditioning for every play season. When I got to OPRF, the stakes exponentially grew. We had kids coming in from BRAVO, Ovation academy, all highly prestigious youth theaters in Oak Park. Acting became less of a pastime for me and more a defining way of life at OPRF. This year, I was lucky enough to get cast in a play, a feat I told myself I could never accomplish.…
