Dr. Keown's book connects the Chinese medicine and Western medicine to helps understand science and medicine between the two cultures. The book explains the Chinese medicine in a simple term, so we as a Western culture can easily comprehend it. The book doesn't talk much about acupuncture and how to perform it. However, it talks about the embryology and the function of human organs. In this book, Dr. Kewon interrelates the concept of Chinese medicine and Western medicine by identifies the cause of illness, points out of channel of human organs for acupuncture, and how acupuncture improves human well-being. Keown talks about the importance philosophy of Ying and Yang also known as Taijitu symbol. "Yin and Yang do not exist as separate entities, though; they are part of a whole, they cannot exist without each other. When they fuse they complement each other, complete each other" (Keown, 2014, p. 101). Together, Ying and Yang form the wholeness just as sperm and egg form a baby. They are opposite of each other just like day and night, and hot and cold. In Taijitsu symbol, there is a space between the Ying and Yang, considered to be the Qi. The Ying and Yang move against each other creating Qi, which is the energy and air for the human body. When Qi is not properly working, it results from Ying and Yang is not balance and our body experiences pain, nausea, and other conditions. Keown fail or did too little to address how health system is a corrupt place. I wish he can elaborates more on how the health care system is corrupt beside making profit. I feel a little offended when he mentions a health care system as a corrupt place because I will be working in health care system one day. Beside making profit form the drug, is it something else that the health care system does that make him called it as a corrupt place. I always think hospital is a place where people go to get heal or get better. Therefore, I wish he can explains more about that. Before I read the book, I thought the book will teach the reader to understand how acupunctured work and how to perform it. And by the time I done with the book, I will know to how perform this treatment. Wrong. Furthermore, I didn't catch the author mentions what are the adverse effect of acupuncture in the reading. Therefore, I wish to know more about the adverse effect of this procedure if there is one. He mentions the therapeutic action of the acupuncture and how it works, but he fails to mention what are the adverse
