This study was set up to explore the talk being made of Adderall on twitter to see when Adderall was mostly talked about. They used the GPS location on twitter to supply the coordinates or a GPS specified place to find out the nearby location or college/university the tweet was being made from. Twitter also gives the option to supply tweets matching any given filter criteria. So in this study the filter criteria were the keyword “Adderall”. Therefore all tweets mentioning that word were collected. From the dates November 29,2011 – May 31, 2012 there were 213,633 tweets from Twitter users whose screen- names mentioned the word “Adderall”. (NCADI, 7) Some of the tweets were very broad, mostly joking about the using of the stimulant, and some of them were being seious directly the abuse of the stimulant. The tweets said things like “Adderall stockpile for finals”, “Running on coffee and Adderall”. (NCADI, 7) The next part of the study determined when tweets were made about Adderall the most, when they were at high and when they were at a low. The tweets tended to increase on Wednesday during the middle of the week and be at the lowest point on Saturday. Tweets were spiked in conversations during the months of December and May, during final exam weeks when students are cramming to study. Tweets regarding Adderall peaked on December 25th with 2813 and April 30th with 2207, and then dropped to 292 on December 25th and 440 on May 27th. (NCADI, 7) According the GPS location filter on twitter showed that students who tweeted were in 150-mile clusters within 48 states.
