Many empires of Middle East civilizations have had strong political and social structures. Two of these empires are the Ottomans and the Safavids. The rise of the Ottomans correlates with the decline of the Roman Empire, which generated the shift in power from a singular Christian European society to a more Islamic influence. The Ottoman people became powerful in Asia Minor, which collapsed as a Seljuk Turk Kingdom, in the 13th to 14th centuries. The Safavids rose to power following the collapse of the Turkic Empire and invasion of the Mongols in the 13th and 14th centuries. Although the Safavids had advanced political and social systems, the Ottoman empire had more efficient political and social methods.…

When I mention the phrase of these men walking different paths, I refer to their upbringing and their deiffernt views of themselves and the world. Both men viewed themselves as vessels to lead change. Benjamin Franklin recognized that he first had to change himself first, then went on to change others. His life being a failure by his standards and those around him, Franklin decided to create a model of truths or virtures he measured his change by. He in turn wanted the world he lived in to reflect such change. Franklin went on to be a man in politics, an inventor, and…

During the years 1200 to 1500 CE, two ideal empires, Mali of Sub – Saharan Africa and the Aztecs of the Americas developed into truly influential and powerful empires. Both empires shared a similarity in economy but a different society. The Mali and Aztecs both traded, but while Mali traded with Islamic regions developing Islamic institutions within its borders, the Aztecs traded locally consequently not being influenced by outside cultures. Both Empires differed in society in which women in Mali tended to have more rights than women in an Aztec society whom they had little to no role in their society. Also social structure of both societies varied in which Mali had extended families and clans serve as the main foundation of their social structure while Aztec society was mainly a hierarchy with military elite as their main source of authority. The Mali Empire and the Aztec Empire rose in different locations thus they had different ways of approaching different aspects of their culture but both empires still shared some key aspects also.…

I think Ben Underwood and the video inspired me alot. The fact that he is blind and doesn't believe it is amazing. He has a great mind set and tells himself he is not blind and nothing is wrong with him is incredible. I think if a blind teenager can teach himself to see then anyone can do anything. They just have to have the right mindset. Ben Underwood doesn’t let anyone tell im he is blind. Ben’s story inspires me to do more things that people tell me I can’t do and it shows me that I can do things better than what I or others think. It makes me feel that I can succeed at anything and become better at anything. It shows me that I should not listen to others when they try to bring me down and say I can’t do something.…

Emerson and Thoreau share similar views on life. They share similar views on life like thinking that it should be taken with simple steps and with ease, living life the way you want to, and appreciating the little values that come along with it. Thoreau states that life should be simple and that “being in the now” is taking over. Everyday advances in the world are starting to choose how we live for us, instead of living our lives ourselves. Emerson says that appreciating small things, appreciating yourself, and appreciating others around you is life. These are the points stated by Emerson and Thoreau on how life should be for everyone.…

The storm of post-apocalyptic novels has taken much of the literary world by storm in the past century or so. This does not stop just there, of course, it branches so far into other media that the storyline of a human life following the collapse of the world as we know it is not at all an unfamiliar one. Movies, video games, and the traditional books have all taken their own look at this interesting offshoot of (science) fiction and have morphed new concepts and perspectives from this one single origin. One such work that exemplifies this is Cormac McCarthy’s The Road.…

A passage I found interesting was: “Anytime Ben and his brother complained about the TV restrictions, Sonya Carson firmly held her ground and insisted: ‘If you boys keep reading books, someday people will be watching you on television!’” (Lewis 25) I found this interesting because this actually came true. This is something I am most likely not going to forget. Another thing I found unforgettable is that Ben had so much faith in God, he knew he could accomplish anything he set his mind to. Ben Carson inspires me because he worked so hard to achieve his goals in life. Ben Carson is my inspiration and I hope to be like him when I grow…
