From the period of 18 to 25 years of age, the transition from adolescence to adulthood is taking place; this period is known as emerging adulthood. Alecia is 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs 135 pounds. Her body is now finished growing and has completely gone through puberty.
She reports that her first menarche was at age 13. This age falls perfectly in line with the average age. Studies have shown that 90% of girls have had their menarche by age 13. Alecia is extremely active on a day to day basis. She runs, participates in a work out class called Purre Barre, goes on walks and takes spin classes. It has often been asked if the attachment styles with partners reflect the attachment styles with parents. Of the three attachment styles Alecia is reported to have an avoidant attachment style. She states that when beginning romantic relationships, she is usually hesitant. Also, that she tends to distance herself from the relationship once she is in one. Although Alecia appears to have an avoidant attachment style, this does not sentence her to a life without positive relationships. While attachment styles are one factor to functioning relationships, many other factors add to success in relationships. Likewise, Alecia had her first serious relationship when she was 18, and her longest relationship lasted for a little over a year. In Essentials of Life Span Development, written by John W. Stantrock, its reported that 92 percent of women and 88 percent of men have a best friend of the same sex. Alecia has a handful of best friends—all female, and all have been in her life for at least 10 years. This is likely due to the fact that during childhood we gravitate towards same sex friends due to
