Prologue
“She is awake” Says the Queen, staring curiously at the screen.
“Yes, the girl is quite a tough cookie.” The scientist mumbles.
The screen shows a young girl fiddling with a piece of fabric on the floor.
The Queen turns to look at him. “And how was she able to survive the poison exactly?”
“Well, my majesty, she seems to have developed immunity to the arsenic we put in her food. “We think this might be because she came from abov-“
“You do not think about saying THAT word ever again! Do you hear me!?”. The Queen yells.
The scientist nods frantically and then shades his face with his hand.
“Now you will have the girl dead by tomorrow otherwise you are ALL to be sent to the pit!”
The Scientist gasps. “But miss I-“
“DO YOU HEAR ME OR NOT!”
“Yes, yes I do my majesty. I will alert my colleagues right away!”
“Just get out of my sight before I change my mind.” …show more content…
The queen mutters.
“Y-yes miss” The scientist scurries away.
Meanwhile on the screen the girl is now looking straight at the camera.
The Queen slowly smiles and whispers “I have got big plans for you Alice.”
Chapter 1: down the rabbit hole
In my dream there is a dark cavernous pit. Leading down to the murky depths of only what I can only imagine lays horrible creatures. But all is strangely silent. In my dream the rabbit is at my side. But he is somehow…different. His eyes are hollow and black and he is not as lively as he usually is. He points down the pit and looks at me expectantly saying nothing.
“What do you want me to do?” I ask.
We stand still for a moment.
Suddenly he shoves me off the edge and with a surprised scream I fall deeper and deeper… until there is no sky left.
I wake up with a jolt and realize it was just a dream.
Although I can’t really tell what is real anymore. It seems like there is no difference between waking and unconsciousness. I start to play with the fabric that is in my cell. The camera in the corner of the room moves. I stare intently wondering who could be behind the screen. My eyes dart to the body lying in the corner of the room. I think the person-or whatever it is-is starting to rot. I can smell the stench from here. The creature is tall and has tentacles protruding from his back with spikes on the end. His skin is covered with black bruise-like rashes. His name is-or was Lewis I think. According to the nametag on his chest. I don’t know what he did to get here. Life in the cell isn’t so bad. There is a dead body in the corner, a surveillance camera and I may have a form of amnesia but it could be worse… I guess. So far I have been in here for 3 days and 2 hours. I think. I go back to playing with the fabric on the floor and hear a loud smash from behind the wall. I can hear cursing. A small rectangular hole is cut through the
wall.
“Hello?” I say.
Two beady eyes stare through the hole.
“Well, well if it isn’t my old friend Alice.” The old man whispers.
“Do I know you?” I ask calmly.
“Don’t play games Alice, you know who I am.”
“Nope.”
The old man grumbles in frustration.
“You really don’t remember me do you?” “I wonder what drugs they put you on”
“I really do have no idea what you are on about.” I say, mindlessly tying and untying my shoes.
“Well nice to meet you Alice. I’m the mad Hatter.”
“oh.” Is all I say?
“Alice, do you want to escape?”
“How would I know if I wanted to go if I didn’t even know where I am?” “And why do you keep calling me that name?”
“You will have to find that out yourself.” “Goodbye Alice, until we meet up again which I predict will be very soon…”
And then he’s gone.
