American Cheerleader Ad Analysis
“American Cheerleader” magazine contains articles and advertisements that appeal to readers who are interested in cheerleading or are cheerleaders. This magazine is for people who want to learn more about cheerleading or want to pursue their interest in cheerleading in the future. Because of this, the cheerleading organization UCA (United Cheerleading Association) has placed their ad, which invites cheerleaders to join the UCA coaching staff, in this specific magazine. The UCA advertisement is impressive in many ways, but lacks in a few aspects of effective ad design.
UCA’s striking advertisement incorporates their organization’s colors of blue and gold in an enticing way, and the ad takes up an entire page and is positioned vertically. A large “U” in varsity lettering sits in the center of the page, and the text above states “The Power In”. When put together, the text reads “The Power In U” (15), referring to the reader as “U”. To be in UCA, one must be in the physical shape of a skilled cheerleader and be prepared to teach and lead girls and boys of all ages at several camps throughout the summer. The people applying for a coaching position at UCA must be committed and ready for the challenges ahead. UCA proves that applicants will enjoy their time as a coach, because the cheerleaders in the ad look happy. The ethos of the cheerleaders in uniform is effective, and gives the reader an idea of what their future could look like. There are only a few simple statements on the advertisement, but additional information is unnecessary with the eye-catching visual on the page.     This document, titled Frosh Camp @ Camp NaCoMe, has multiple different features and lots of information. The title itself is formatted in a certain way for a reason. The words “Frosh Camp” are very bold and in Memphis blue; whereas the words “@ Camp NaCoMe” are in grey and much less bold. The author of this document made it this way because Frosh Camp is the main subject and is meant to be more noticed than the location of the camp. Because the background of the main part of the advertisement is white, the blue stands out even more. Besides the title, the first thing you notice is the two large pictures in the foreground at the top of the page. These pictures show Frosh Camp campers in 1994 and 2012. They are inside a green circle to represent a fun atmosphere verses placing the pictures in the standard square. In the background there are a few, big light blue polka dots the author placed just to add a little more fun and color to the page. The 2012 picture shows people of all different types and ethnicities. With an audience of University of Memphis 2012 freshman, this is a very good thing to show because people won’t worry about fitting in. Next, your eyes guide to the text underneath.     There are multitudes of unique and genuine advertisements that span from tv advertisements to ads in magazines. Due to the differentiation in the means of communication, both the structural aspects and the presentation of the advertisements vary paramountly.When crafting magazine advertisements, the producer is restricted to specific means of broadcasting their beliefs in essence. The advertiser has to assimilate both physical and literal elements in a equitable manner to fully convey what the argument is claiming. However, this circumspection subjects them to select the most applicable pictures and terms. Furthermore, in order to avoid failure and the chances of a page flipped too early, a magazine advertisement has to utterly enthrall the consumer's attention.. One particular advertisement conveying these said messages can be found in an issue of “Game Informer” magazine. There is a much deeper message being conveyed than just claiming it is “army strong” to live life to the fullest. The prime memorandum being proposed is that enlisting in the Army is both seen as a true act of honor and will propense a strong minded character that will see nothing but utter success throughout life.
