America's Involvement In World War II

A terrible event happened on the 1st of September 1939 the world entered its second world war. It’s hard to believe that such a thing as world war two happened in this century. World War 2 was the most widespread war that has ever been, in the 6 years the World War 2 waged up to 78 million people died, which is around 2.5 percent of the world’s population. Nearly every country in the world took part in world war 2 save for a few neutral countries, but the biggest contenders were comprised of the axis and the allies. The allied side was; Great Britain, France, China, Soviet Union, and the United States and the axis had the fascist led Italy, the Nazi controlled Germany, and the empire of Japan. Before the attack on Pearl Harbor the Japanese had been taking over many countries in the east. It started with Japan taking over Manchuria, most of China, Korea, and many island in the pacific. By this point America will still do nothing. It wasn’t until France was overtaken by Germany and Japan seized control of French Indochina that America stopped supplying Japan with Petroleum products and scrap metal, Great Britain and the Dutch East Indies who also supplied Japan followed suit. Japan had lost almost all means of getting oil and had to act. The Japanese knew that if they tried to go toe-to-toe with the United States they would be beaten so they had to cause a big blow to the American pacific naval fleet to ensure they could keep expanding their conquest even more east. The Japanese trained for months on a simulated Pearl Harbor, it is said by some of the Japanese pilots that they could have bombed Pearl Harbor blind. On December 7th, 1941 the Japanese launched their attack on the United States Pacific fleet at Pearl Harbor. The very next day, December 8th ,1941 President Franklin Roosevelt gave the famous Day of Infamy speech and Congress declared war on Japan, 3 days later Congress declared war on
