We Are Young
During the Super Bowl of 2013, Taco Bell released a commercial titled “Viva Mas”. Which means “Live More” is Spanish. The commercial begins with an elderly man sneaking out of a nursing home late at night to join his friends. His group of elderly friends is waiting outside in a green, older model vehicle. They then begin their adventure by having fun and enjoying the night by acting young again. Throughout the commercial the song “We Are Young” is is being played but in the Spanish version. The ad is about Mexican food which is why the song is being played in Spanish. This commercial uses techniques such as humor and up- beat music to persuade the elderly audience to “Live More”. Taco bell feels that you are never too old to “Live Mas.” Taco Bell uses humor as one of their many techniques to draw in the audience to the commercial. Humor is a good technique that most commercials use because it tends to make people happy and more interested. Taco bell did exactly this. After the old man sneaked out of the nursing home the commercial takes us to one of its first scenes. This scene shows the senior citizens stripping down, jumping into a pool, while laughing and having a good time. This scene is very humorous because how often do we see the people that we know as “Grandma and Grandpa” stripping down into their underwear for a late night swim. Another example of this humor technique is an older man going into a tattoo parlor and getting the words “Golden Age” tattooed across his upper back. The commercial then continues to a night club with a younger man coming out of a bathroom stall with an elderly women and lipstick prints on his left cheek. These are both humorous scenes because not many senior citizens get tattoos or have late night ‘hook ups’ with someone who looks young enough to be their grandchild.
Throughout the commercial the play a poppy song called “We Are Young” this is
