Analysis: The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective Teens
In the novel “The 7 habits of Highly Effective Teens,” by Sean Covey, he tells us about habits and goals we should set for ourselves to become a better person. All of these habits can be applied to high school freshman. Although three habits really stood out to me, that would be useful to highschool freshman. Habit one, “ Be proactive,” habit two, “ Begin with the End in Mind,” habit three, “ Put First Things First,” could all be applied to high school freshman.

On January 20, 1993, the endless chant of “Clinton, Clinton, Clinton!” was the single word heard as the American people watched on TV while “the first Democrat to be elected President since 1976” (Savage), Bill Clinton stepped to the podium to give the anticipated Oath of Office and Inaugural Address. The Inaugural Address of 1993 provided a sufficient amount of evidence that if looked back on, would show that Clinton had kept the promise of “change” that the speech and campaign had been built around. Clinton worked to get the Family and Medical Leave Act, “Don’t ask, don’t tell”, and to raise overall economic growth. In the Inaugural Address Clinton said, “When our founders boldly declared America 's independence to the…

Effective people institute change with what they have the power to influence, and they feel that they can influence almost everything.…

In an article written by Diane Dew, titled The Trouble Teens Face, It was stated that in recent years the media has been flooded with articles about the problems teens face. These problems range from drugs and violence, to pregnancy and abortion. I want discuss abortion because it is such an important issue for my generation. Since the 19th century English common law forbade abortion. Abortion prior to quickening was a misdemeanor and then a felony. In 1967 the first two states to make abortion legal was Colorado and California. By June 1970 New York passed its first abortion on demand law with a 24 week limit. It was the 16th state to allow abortion when the other states were still very restrictive. They only allowed abortions for pregnancies involving rape, incest, life of the mother or fetal handicap.…

The day of the eighth grade promotion was filled with mixed emotions. I was very nervous but also excited to be leaving middle school. I was mostly nervous because I would have to walk up onto the stage in front of over a hundred people. I didn’t want to go because of how nervous I was. The school day was uneventful. We went over what we were supposed to do in the gym multiple times. Even though the day was boring and uneventful, I was nervous the entire school day. In The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, Sean Covey states, “Putting first things first also deals with learning to overcome your fears and being strong during hard moments” (Covey 106). In order to overcome my fear and stay strong I had to put first things first. I was worrying…

A second piece of advice is do not let peer pressure ruin your life or friendships. A lot of people go through high school partying and doing drugs and it changes a lot of people. That is one reason a lot of friendships will end because one friend will do something that the other one does not approve of, and they will start to argue about it and just end up not being friends anymore because one decided to make a bad choice. It ruins lives because people can develop addictions to alcohol or certain drugs because of peer pressure. If you listen to a loser then you end up a loser later on so it is just best in high school to just follow what you strongly believe in, and to not be afraid to be yourself and do what you want to do. It’s your life to live, so you make your own choices. The last and final piece of advice to new freshmen would be to just have fun, do not let stupid stereotypes or people who think they are too cool tell you what to do. If you want to be a computer geek, then be a computer geek. If people say anything to you, just let it go in one ear and out the other. They…
