Angela Shelton Video Analysis
I thought that the Angela Shelton video involved a very interesting project. It was surprising to me how many of the women with the same name had experiences with abuse. The women seemed to have a variety of reactions to the abuse they suffered. One woman talked about her issues with alcohol, and feeling like the only time she could talk was when she was drunk. The Angela making the film seemed to be very sensitive to all of the experiences that the other women had. She was very kind, and helped the women to talk if they wanted to. I thought it was interesting how a few of the women were laughing about their experiences. One woman was talking about her grandfather and step-father being abusive, but she laughed about some of the situations. …show more content…
I have not seen humor as a reaction, so that was different for me. I think sometimes we use humor to cover up nerves, but I could not figure out if this is what some of the women were doing. Some women still did not like to talk about it, while others freely discussed their experiences. Some felt confident and strong, while others had self-esteem issues. One woman discussed the idea of a “culture of silence” saying that culturally, it was something she was not supposed to talk about after it happened. A few other women also talked about how they were told to forget about it or just move on. I think that the movie highlighted the variety of reactions that victims can have. Some fair better than others, and this could be for a variety of reasons. I am curious now about some of the differences in protective factors, and what the women did who were faring well in the present did to recover from the

I had not been aware of Nell Irvin Painter before this video. As the video began I thought it was going to be a white talking about the history of history of white people. I was surprised to see an African-American women talking to what I saw, a mostly white crowd, about the history of white people. I was taken back for a moment because I was confused on how an African-American women could talk about and relate to the history of white people but then as the video progressed I began to realize she was referring to more than being white or the concept of whiteness, Because she was addressing the characterizations of the lighter-skinned people we call white today.…

Beyonce is recognized as an icon of women empowerment. She is one of the most influential celebrities in the world. In Beyonce’s music video, “Pretty Hurts,” femininity is shown through the struggles and pressures women go through to meet the unrealistic standards of beauty. Compared to the topic of femininity, the representation of masculinity is very limited in the music video. I was impressed with Mary’s ability to present a very emotional and scary topic with a balanced tone of voice. Because she didn’t present emotion I was able to take in what she was saying even as she used various devices to get her point across and I felt this was very effective. At the end when she spoke to her children as the future of her cause was a tear jerker, and even if this wasn’t necessary, was a smart move to gain support for her cause. The underlying current of her whole speech was that with proper education and an…

Presented in the book entitled Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield rebels against what life has to offer. Symbolized throughout the book, Holden shows his many dislikes towards the normal actions of a human being. The normal things that take place in society seem to irate Holden. Stated in chapter two, Holden says “People always think something’s all true.” Holden is explaining his frustration of the lack of education towards things people say and do. Holden tends to see the bigger picture, and the smaller details. Also stated in chapter two of Catcher in the Rye, Holden states “People never notice anything.” This also shows Holden’s great attention to detail. Holden notices the little things; he notices the little girl, later on in the book, that is having…

    Jane Elliott Summary

At the beginning of the video, I perceived Jane Elliott to be very rude toward the students. But once she explained her goal to the groups, I thought it was an excellent opportunity for the students to experience a portion of racism that’s received by people of color. I feel that many white students should be able to experience the receiving end of racism, and Jane Elliott’s goal of allowing them to become aware of these negative treatments that they inflict on people of color was excellent. The comments that were made by the blue group, explaining their feelings from the exercise, were very interesting.…

The content of her talk was overall good in my opinion. She used videos and her own personal examples to help express what she was saying. The videos she used were of Koko the gorilla, two men, and two mothers. She used these videos to help the audience understand what she means when she says “spotting a liar”. She put up two different videos of two different moms and made the audience try and pick out which one of the two was lying. This was a great idea to not only keep the audience involved but it also helped me personally understand what she was saying. When Pamela used her own personal examples they were either funny or relatable. When she talked about people not wanting to meet her for coffee that was an example of a funny one. When she talked about how much we get lied to it was crazy but, relatable. Overall the content of her talk was…

“Humor appear’s to help people’s psychological and physical well being.” It says in Peter McGraw’s essay “The Importance of Humor Research.” It has been proven that it is good for your body to react in such a way to a funny situation but the psychological portion of it is hard to understand. When someone laughs, endorphins are released from the brain and are sent throughout the body creating the feeling of pleasure. It is a healthy alternative to any negative situation, whether it be negative or awkward it can be made easier with a joke here or…

Another scene that left a lasting impression on me, was the last scene of the program, when Jane Elliott was debriefing the adults from the correctional facility. That experiment, even in such a short time, proved how easy it was to break down the barriers of what is right or wrong. Even though the adults were less tolerant of the ridicule and demeaning accusations, most did not say anything, and the ones that did just gave the discriminators more…

    Date Rape Play Analysis

Though the two characters are female, the universal theme of restoration applies to all sexes. I believe my endeavor brings an active mindfulness to the trauma of rape. The plot revolves around a college student named Sara who has been sent to counseling at the request of her parents. They do this out of a desire to help and, like many parents, are not sure how. They know something has happened to Sara, but she is refusing to discuss her problems. The majority of the play consists of Sara’s counseling session with a trauma specialist named Stephanie. I did this so I could not just bring awareness to the audience, but also to use the counseling session in the play to speak to those in the audience who have been sexually abused already. Sara’s struggles will be familiar to many of them and hopefully let them know they’re not alone as they watch her work through her…

Throughout his diverse emotional states, Romeo, a round character, undergoes the emotional changes of love and hate. In early acts of the play, Romeo is depressed due to his overwhelming love for Rosaline, the woman who swore, “that she will still live chaste,” (I. i. 214). Only, he thought that he loved her. To try to diverge his emotional state from this depression, Mercutio takes Romeo to the Capulet’s party. There, Romeo becomes lovestruck by the, “true beauty,” of the daughter of Capulet (I. i. 53). Romeo’s emotional state completely reverses. He becomes this hopeful and positive man full of love. Nothing can stop this man from going back down to the bottom, or so we think. As we make our way into Act III, things start to go downhill.…
