Do Animals Need A Bill of Rights? Animals on a daily basis all over the world are being mistreated and abused by many people that do not care for them. There are very few people attempting to protect these animals, whether they are domestic animals, farm animals, or wildlife animals. More attention should be drawn to the treatment of animals because even if we do have laws for animals and for their well being, many people still do not follow these laws. The laws already established for animals should be enforced, because I do agree that animals need protection, as in free from any harm done towards them purposely, but to have a Bill of Rights specifically made for animals seems extreme. Reasons for believing that animals need protection from any harm done to them from humanity is that many animals are being used for scientific experiments that harm these animals in a cruel way. Yes, there are experiments that use animals and may not harm them in any way, which is fine if there’s no harm being done to them. For example in the article “A Change of Heart about Animals” by Jeremy Rifkin states, “In controlled experiments, scientists at Oxford University reported that two birds named Betty and Abel were given a choice between using two tools, one a straight wire, the other a hooked wire, to snag a piece of meat from inside a tube.” This experiment was fine to conduct because in no way were these crows harmed. The only thing the scientists were doing was observing the crow’s behavior. If there needs to be experiments done to animals for whatever reason, the experiments should be conducted in a way that the animals are not harmed. Another reason for believing that animals need protection is that animals are being harmed or mistreated by people who have a habit of using animals for entertainment. A form of entertainment for humanity from animals in a cruel way is hunting wildlife

I believe that animals are very similar to we humans, they feel and have emotions, thus they shouldn’t be mistreated or abused, rather be treated with love and respect. It was on this belief that the ASPCA was founded in 1866. The first anti-cruelty law was passed after their founding. “…..I have developed a deep respect for animals. I consider them fellow living creatures with certain rights that should not be violated any more than those of humans.” (Stewart)…

Animals from creation have been an essential integral part of human beings. They have frequently been, either directly or indirectly, used by humans to achieve their needs. Hence they are important part and great asset to humans. These animals do have lives different from that of humans and equally have some similar characteristics with humans like emotional feelings. This very fact puts humans in a difficult position of determining the amount of respect and regard that should be accorded to the animals. Some people agitate that animals should be granted same equal rights as human beings. Inasmuch as I quite agree that animals should be granted some rights in order to be free from cruel treatments by humans, the issue of granting them equal full rights as enjoyed by humans should not come up. An objective review of such factors as tradition, cultural believes, religious, socio-economic, and medical as well as salient natural features that distinguish animals from humans like morality, and ability to…

Animals contribute in many ways to our world. We seem to take for granted the benefits animals can have on us. The benefits animals have on our earth shouldn’t be taken for granted. Without animals, our earth would not receive the essential nutrients it needs to flourish. Establishing animal rights will give animals the love and respect that they’ve always deserved. Animal are not pieces of meat, they are a vital resource to the nutriment of our earth. We have been given the power to protect animals and give them rights of their own. We should not ignore the needs of animals. Animals have benefited us in ways no human can. It is our moral duty as humans to take a stand for animals and give them the rights they deserve. People need animals to live. We use them for every aspect of life. Think of anything in life and animals have helped to make it possible. Nothing that we have was made without the help of animals. The idea that humans should give animals' rights and declare them free is ludicrous. How can anyone be brainless enough to think of that? I can understand that people beat animals and torture them; that is wrong.. That is not the case in every aspect of the animal kingdom. Those people should be punished and face the consequence, but animals are the things that make the world-go-round.…

    Animal Bill of Rights

I believe animals do not need a Bill of Rights because they already have plethora of laws that protect all of their basic needs. For example, Germany has already passed laws to protect the basic rights of Ape’s. In the article “primates” they said, “The Green Party in Germany is preparing two bills supporting the Great Ape Project”(Yong). Another way that animals already have their rights protected is, Dogs have shelters and pounds to go to if they have no home or are left on the street, you are also not allowed to beat them or have dog fights with them. The human society states that, “Dogfighting is a felony offense in all 50 states…and… dogs used in these events often die of blood loss, shock, dehydration, exhaustion, or infection hours or even days after the fight”(Humane Society).…

An organization called the Animal Legal Defense Fund has sponsored a petition that raises the awareness and calls for increased protection for the rights of animals. An excerpt from the petition briefly touches on how “animals are defenseless against exploitation and abuse by humans.” Alongside, it also informs us the objective of the petition that “through the Animal Bill of Rights, the Animal Legal Defense Fund is working to show Congress a groundswell of support for legislation that protects animals and recognizes that, like all sentient beings, animals are entitled to basic legal rights in our society.” In our society today, animals are brutally abused, treated unfairly, neglected or have experiments conducted on them. This bill is pushing for a basic set of rights aimed at animals to protect them, although many people disagree. The petition, I believe, could change a lot in the world today. I agree with the defense fund of passing this petition for animal rights and that all animals should be treated as equal as humans. The Animal Bill of Rights can stop animals from being abused, experimented on, and innocently dying.…

    Animal Testing: the Facts

Why should animals not have the same rights that humans do? Maybe because they cannot talk, read books, or drive cars, but neither can some humans for that matter. So why is it that when an experiment, which was conducted to help treat type 2 diabetes, killed 203 people, it was halted immediately, although millions of animals die each year due to scientific experimentation? The answer is that many believe that animals are worthless or are not worth as much as human beings are, so they are therefore dispensable. The problem with that is animals are living things just like humans. Therefore, like human beings, they understand fear and experience pain. They also feel excitement and happiness. So why should they be denied the same basic rights that humans have? The answer to that question is that they should not be. Animals deserve the same rights that humans have, so testing that jeopardizes animal life, and safety should come to a cease immediately in the same way that it would if the same testing were to be conducted on human beings.…

In his essay The Case for Animal Rights, Tom Regan has set out a broad outline as an introduction for his book, The Case for Animal Rights, with same title. In the beginning, the author makes a special emphasis on that, the goals of the advocation of animal rights not only make people treat animals ‘more humane’, but also deny the view, which is fundamental wrong, that animals are humans’ resources. As a defender of animal rights as well as a philosopher, Regan attempts, through his professional knowledge, which area he has been exploring over ten years, to justify that animals have the rights as equal as human beings. In his own words, “people must change their beliefs before they change their habits”.…

In May of 2015 the latest Gallup poll readings stated that 62% of Americans think animals should have some basic protection but still be able to be used for the benefit of humans; in retrospect, 32% of people thought animals should have the same rights as people, while 3% didn’t think animals needed any protection at all. With numbers like these an organization called the Animal Legal Defense Fund has written up a bill that calls for protection of the rights of animals, but is this really necessary?…

Unalienable rights, are rights given to us when we are born, they are the basic HUMAN rights that can not be taken away, but why are they only human rights? Animals have been around before we were even in the picture, and yet, humanity doesn’t give animals a bill of rights. We slaughter, mistreat, and deny life to thousands of living beings. I believe that instead of all men having been created equal, it should be all has been created equal. A Bill of Rights for Animals would not be that hard, it isn’t that difficult of a concept. The Animal Legal Defense Fund has already wrote out a bill of rights for animals which includes six unalienable rights, “I.…
