Animas Arguments Against Animal Testing

Animal Testing is a cruel experiment when animals are used as test subjects on products and drugs. This causes harm to the animals, and is not always reliable. Animas should not be tested on for products Animal testing is unreliable. Some may say animals are appropriate test subjects because they are similar to humans. Professor Paul Furlong states that "it's very hard to create an animal model that even equates closely to what we're trying to achieve in the human.". So testing on animals wont always be accurate. Cruelty Free International says that animals do not get as many of the diseases that we do, like Parkinson's disease and many forms of cancer. CFI also says that using mice and rats as test subjects was accurate 43% of the time. This shows that we can't rely on animals to test our products and drugs because they react differently. CFI claims, "Out of 93 drug side effects, only 19% could have been predicted by animals, the study found.". Animal testing is dangerous. The Biomedical Research Association states that nearly every medical breakthrough in
the last 100 years has resulted directly from animals. But, animal testing isn't necessarily safe. NBC news showed an example. A drug called Vioxx was safe when tested on animals. When Vioxx was given to humans it caused heart attacks, strokes and death in around 320,000 people. Another example took place in the 1950s. The sleeping pill Thalidomide, caused over 10,000 children to be born with deformities. CFI states that only 1/3 of substances to cause cancer in humans have been shown to cause cancer in animals. this shows that testing the products on animals doesnt guarantee a safe medicine. Animals should not be tested on.
Tibor R. Machan says that animals do not have rights, there fore it is okay to experiment on them. But many people disagree. The Daily Californian says that on June 19, 2014, about 15 protesters laid motionless in public to protest against animal testing at the UC Berkeley Research Labs. Many people agree that animal testing is cruel and inhumane. Animals can be harmed because they are tested on for cosmetics and medicines. With our technology now, there are altenatives to testing on animals. Cruelty Free International states, " The device, which is about the size of a smartphone, Is known as a human-on-a-chip." This device uses cells from different organs linked together to mimic the human body. This method is cheaper and cruelty free. Also, PCRM took a survey and the results were 72% of people were against animal testing, especially for useless things like
cosmetics. Animal testing should become a thing of the past. It's cruel, unreliable, and dangerous. There are alternatives and solutions to animal testing. Do you think animals should be used as test subjects?
