Of the many different tragedies that has effected the U.S. today, slavery would have to be the biggest one to still have effect on America today. Some say that slavery is the cause of “the racial residential separation” that is going on today, like the calling a location where majority of black live the “ghetto.” Also another effect of slavery is the schooling. There is usually a rare amount of blacks that go to private schools due to “adapting as a means of survival,” Denises Art says in her article, “The Effects of Slavery Today.” There is not much anyone can do about the effects slavery on today’s …show more content…

As Max Weber would say, American Capitalism is defined as, “a greed for a gain.” Before the system of Capitalism was made, slaves signed an agreement to serve a certain period of time and then left on their own.
Farmers in the south needed more control over their slaves and could not have them just leaving. This is where Capitalism came in and solved these southern farmers problems. Capitalism, for those who do not know, is considered a private ownership. So farmers now owned the slaves after Capitalism was created which made slavery more dominate.

Slavery may have ended over a century ago, but it has caused even today’s society to separate because of the color of one’s skin. Many experts say that racism will not die even at the end of the 21st century. Scholars say that slavery is responsible for things such as homelessness, single-parent households, and youth violence. “Stephen Steinberg writes in the The Ethnic Myth that, ‘ghettos are nothing less than the shameful residue of slavery.’” Slavery also is the blame of African Americans for losing their “tribal affiliated” cultures and gaining the culture of slavery. Americans tend to ask themselves what they owe African Americans because of slavery and the answer is nothing. The history of slaves tends to makes the Caucasian /white race feel guilty because of what their ancestors
endured.

Slavery, to this day, is one of the most tragic chapters in history. It all started in 1510 when Europeans captured Africans (slaves) and took them to America to work. It was not hard to get passed the African people because Europeans had much more dangerous weapons compared to the Africans. Africans used traditional spears and shields as weapons but as the need for more slaves grew Europeans began to trade their weapons for more slaves. Slaves were abused and tortured in various ways. If one was weak, you were left to die. If one did not move fast enough moving from coast to coast to be traded, they were whipped.

In the 1600’s, slaves could either get married, testify in court, own legal property or make a family or they could make money to free themselves. The southern plantations were the most popular place to have slaves work. They usually did things such as farming, which is why the North did not have many slaves. During the time of slavery, they had many movements go on to stop slavery. For an example, The Underground Railroad was an escape system where slaves hid underground during the daytime and migrated all throughout the nighttime to reach the Mason Dixon line.
