Anthropology on Homosexuals

In this day in age almost everyone knows someone who is a homosexual. I say in this in age because homosexuality is more accepted today then it ever was. In America we have legalized gay marriage, martial benefits, an annual gay parade, and there are many others. Everyone has an opinion on gays, so more positive then others, but at the same time there are a lot of negative ideas that comes with being openly gay. Heavily religious groups are against gays and make it very hard for you to be open with your sexuality. You may not be welcomed in their place of worship, your family make look at your differently, or even disown you. For example, some Christians refer to homosexuality as a "sin against nature", and for Jewish it is forbidden by the Torah, and is considered a capital offense. Despite religion and other factors it is okay to be open and free with your sexuality here in New York. It is considered okay for a man to be dressed as a woman or a woman dressed as a man to be walking down the street carefree, in most cases. In other countries you might be tortured, killed, or be harassed while walking down the street. In New York City there is a Gay Pride Week dedicated to all the homosexuals, which ends in an a gay parade that is held everywhere. People of all kinds are encouraged to come out, they could be gay, straight, a transvestite it doesn't matter. The parade is all about being who you are and comfortable enough to enjoy yourself around people like yourself. Gay marriage became legal in New York June 24, 2011. Prior to that a couple could have been together for over 50 years, but if suddenly something were to happen to their partner they would have no say into anything. Along with legalizing gay marriage came automatic inheritance, sick leave to care for a partner, immunity from testifying against your partner, wrongful Death. Same sex couples were also now allowed to adopt children, although that is still highly controversial. There are many other benefits of same sex marriage to the people as well as to the state. Legal recognition of same-sex marriage would necessarily shift certain basic moral values and devalue what some call a “traditional marriage”. People believe it is in the child’s best interests that he be raised under the guidance of their natural father and mother. The unfortunate situation of these children will be the norm for all children of a same-sex “marriage.” A child of a same-sex marriage will always be deprived of either his natural mother or father. He will always be deprived of either a mother or a father role model. Same-sex marriage ignores a child’s best interests. Accordingly, anyone who professes to love God must be opposed to it. In the book of Genisis it states,“God created man in His image; in the Divine image he created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them, saying: ‘Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it.’” The same was taught by Our Savior Jesus Christ: “From the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female. For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother; and shall cleave to his wife.” Genesis also teaches how God punished Sodom and Gomorrah for their homosexuality: “The Lord rained down sulphurous fire upon Sodom and Gomorrah. He overthrew those cities and the whole Plain, together with the inhabitants of the cities and the produce of the soil.”
Many people have a gut feeling that is it simply wrong , just something that violates their code of nature, good or simply the “norm”. Some people see this behavior as offensive, openly gay men kissing in front of your young child might not be something you are very happy about. Whether a particular action is right or wrong, sinful or not sinful, is not based on popular acceptance, a dictionary definition or it’s now the time to do it. It’s based on what God has said, not the consensus of the people or what nine politically influenced judges have to say because God has already voted on the matter. As we can see a lot of the reasons why people are against gay marriage has a lot to do with religious beliefs.
From being in interaction with them a lot all day, I say it should be accepted. Same sex marriage gives same sex couples the same rights of other couples. If a man in a gay relationship was in the hospital had been hurt his gay partner can not see him in some circumstances. Also when filing taxes, you save a lot of money when filling that you’re in a domestic relationship. Most people try to use religion saying it is a religious thing. People think that it's unnatural and against ourvalues that have been around for centuries but when we look back its actually been going on since bibicial day. Why does homosexuality trump all? A lot of things are sins drinking, cheating, lying, murder, and so much more. Although people stand up for these things its not such a big deal. I think people should accept these changes that are coming as we change more too. Man nor woman should be denied the right to express their love to someone. If a gay couple is really in love and want children I think that if they make the best parents for that child they should be able to raise that child the best way they can. Growing up the city I’ve leaned to come to terms that homosexuality is something that we are surrounded by no matter where we are. You see it on the street, in school, at work, and even in our own families. People shouldn’t be denied benefits or someone they’ve been with for over 50 or 60 years. Love is love and shouldn’t be denied based on what you preferring be “abnormal” to some. I think same-sex couples should have the same right to marry and form families as heterosexual couples are.
