Application Essay: My Career As A Racist
Assassinations, espionage, shoot-outs, and defusing bombs - these are activities that the common public typically associate with the United States Intelligence Community. I have a future career goal of working for the FBI or the CIA, which are agencies catalogued under the intelligence community. However, I aspire to work in a more mundane capacity than the typical field-agent stereotype. I want to work in an American intelligence agency as a forensic accountant. The path needed to get from my current position in life to my desired goal requires education. Education, in turn, requires financial support to complete and brings me to this particular point of applying for scholarships.
Attending college is a crucial step towards becoming a forensic

“White privilege”. A controversial topic but no less of a social issue. Eric Liu had achieved the status of “honorary white”. With this “high” ranking come certain rights, privileges that make life in the Western world somewhat “simple.” Liu provided examples of what comes with these privileges. “I have never once been the victim of blatant discrimination, I have been in the inner sanctums of political power.” and “I expect my voice to be heard.” White privilege is being treated with more respect than people of ethnic background, it is the lack of diversity in politics and media and what makes a colorful world black and white. Striving to assimilate in order to sit on the “white” pedestal is what caused Liu and his parents to think of their past as “dirty”.…

As children, we were taught to treat others as we wished to be treated. We were taught to love and value one another, we were taught morals. However, as time passed, a growing hatred consumed us. We as a nation lost our empathy amongst each other and began to dehumanize our own neighbors. We as a whole began to discriminate on the basis of skin color, religion, and race. Racism is an injustice act that has been around for centuries, affecting millions of people all throughout the world, and can still be found in present day. Although I believe this to be true, there is a growing opposition that believes that racism is not an injustice but rather the reality of life. Racism is instilled in people through various influences and as a result, they have shaped…

Racism is the hardest one to discuss but I am doing my best to help student to discuss. Also I want to mention something , I want to change their idea about how they can discuss this kind of topic. For example, if you are a white american and you are not racist so I do not have to discuss or talk about any thing that some white people has done in their history. Even though he or she are not racist , he or she belongs to this part. By knowing how to interact with people and learning the history and discussing that in a good why without avoiding talking about it that is a tool that I want to see them using it after they pass this course.…

    • 2 Pages

Racial Bias has always been an epidemic across the United States even generations back and modern society. The traces of hostility and biased mistreatment towards specific races continue on existing today, although many people attempt to fight for change. An article, by Morland, J. K (1987), which focuses on the development of racial bias in children, clearly suggests how racial bias was viewed earlier in history while saying how a darker skin complexion is associated with evil and children learn early on that a lighter skin shade is more preferable and superior in society. Concluding from this article is that the idea of racial bias can be imprinted into an individual’s thought process at an early age. Many of the causes of racial…

Racism is a hot topic all over the world, but what really is racism? Miriam-Webster defines racism as “poor treatment of or violence against people because of their race; the belief that some races of people are better than others.” In more colloquial language, racism is discriminating anyone because of their race and or ethnic background. Racism is all around us, and racism will be prevalent until the end of time.…

Within our country, I see a number of problems we face on a daily basis. An enormous problem we are facing that is becoming out of hand is the issue of racism. In the past few months, there have been quite a few instances of racism being the cause of death. The case that sticks out the most in my opinion is the Charleston church shooting. A white man entered a historically black church and opened fire, killing nine people, one of whom was a pastor. The man who shot those innocent people was a racist individual who had no respect for his fellow Americans, or for his Lord. He walked inside a place of worship to kill people solely because of the color of their skin. That act of hatred in unacceptable under every circumstance. I fully believe in…

“Mimi, you're always going to have to work twice as hard.” Words by my grandmother, a civil rights activist, spoken to me at a young age did not register in my mind; the older I became, the more evident the problem stood out. Discrimination and racism versus diversity and equality. Society has characterized minorities as being inferior to other groups, such as Caucasians and men.Throughout American history, Caucasians have socially and economically been viewed as superior to members of others ethnic groups. In addition, men have typically been thought of having power and authority. Unfortunately, many people have been defined by the actions of others in their ethnic group. The discrepancies between the ethnic groups have caused division in…

Reverse racism does not exist. By definition, racism is the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race (stereotypes), especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or other races. It is usually directed to people of color. Reverse racism is when ‘white people’ claim to be discriminated against. It is usually used as a defense when people of color call out obvious discrimination.…

We must fight discrimination by changing the way we view other races. We must look at the positive sides of everyone, the negatives are just things we think about and are nonexistent. No matter what anyone says, they have more than likely said or at least thought something racist wether it be in traffic, in line, or anywhere. If you think about it, you will realize that racism is just absolutely useless, nothing is accomplished by being racist. Great people are slandered just by the way they look and you miss out on the opportunity to get to know them.…

Discrimination - “The unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the ground of race, age, or sex.” Racial discrimination - “Treating someone unfavorably because he/she is of a certain race or because of personal characteristics associated with race (such as hair texture, skin color, or certain facial features).” Discrimination isn’t a newly faced issue in our society today. We have witnessed many events where racial discrimination has taken place all over the country. I chose to research this topic because it was a topic that came up during our Civil War presentations in Social Studies class. Racial discrimination is a terrible issue that’s been around for quite a while and is negatively affecting…
