Do you think it would be okay to have assisted suicide in our daily lives?
In my opinion, assisted suicide should be someone’s choice in life, whether or not to live or die is their choice. Suicide is a major topic in our daily lives these days due to the recent deaths of people.
“I do not know what I would do if I were dying in prolonged and excruciating pain,”he wrote. “I am certain, however, that it would be a comfort to be able to consider the options afforded by this bill. And I wouldn’t deny that right to others.” is what governor Jerry Brown said to The New York Times newspaper. Now in our society we have to look at the struggles and painful times these patients and victims of certain things like cancer …show more content…
or leukemia. There are hospitals that carry medicine that is capable of being lethal to a patient.
Things like this are very challenging to explain or have a discussion about due to its topic of suicide, which in the eyes of the catholic church, it is a “sin”. An example of a suicide victim is Brittany Maynard, a woman who was diagnosed with brain cancer at the age of 29. Maynard became a spokeswoman for a movement called “death with Dignity” which shows the people who don't know what it’s like to stare death in the eye. A couple months later, Maynard decided to end her life and kill herself before the cancer would. In my opinion, I believe that Maynard made a good decision to not let the cancer end her life. But I don't like the fact that the only way out was to basically kill yourself. In 2014, four states considered the bill about the “Assisted Suicide” topic and allowed hospitals to carry the vials of poison to use for assisted suicide. “California will provide some momentum and space for legislators to see that they can enact laws that are popular, supported by law, and bring relief to those who need it at the end of their lives,” is what Mickey MacIntyre, chief program officer for Compassion and Choices, said to the New York Times newspaper during an interview about the case. In my opinion, it’s
the right thing to do. For example. If your mother has stage 4 brain cancer and is not expected to survive for much longer, what do you think that she would do? Do you think that she would go through the pain of her final days or end her life when she’s in peace and tranquility. It’s just common sense on her end. Why go through so much pain and suffering when you can go out in a peaceful way. There is no reason of putting yourself through so much hurt.I support the assisted suicide bill and hope that it would come into effect in all of the 50 states of the United States of America.
