One of the many reasons people should have college educations is because more and more jobs are requiring a college education. For example, 187,000 more jobs required college degrees between December 2007 and January 2010. In 2010- 2016 99% job growth went to workers with college degrees. In a study at Georgetown University it was revealed that in 2018 63% of jobs will require some sort of college education or degree(Procon.org). So …show more content…
even though college can be expensive it can help you get a better job, or help you get a job.
Another huge reason to have a college education is college graduates earn more money than high school graduates do.
The average take- home pay of a college graduate is $38,950, and the average take- home pay of a high school graduate is $21,500. So the average take- home pay of a college graduate is almost double that of a high school graduate. Also, over the course of 40 years a college graduate will have earned $1 million dollars more than a high school graduate(Hamilton). A house headed by a bachelor’s degree holders’s median income is more than double a high school graduate. People with bachelor’s degrees earn $30,000 more than a high school graduate every year (Procon.org). So even though college can be very expensive when you get a job you will earn more money than you would have if you would not have gone to
college.
College graduates are also more likely to get health insurance and retirement plans than people who did not go to college at all. 70% college graduates have access to employer- provided health insurance, compared to only 50% of high school grads. 70% of college graduates 25 years of age and up have access to retirement plans, along with 55% high school graduates and 30% high school dropouts (Procon.org). Health insurance and retirement plans are just two more things you can gain from going to college.
In college students learn many skills that will help them in their future lives. One of these many skills is interpersonal skills. College students can have the opportunity to interact with other students and faculty on campus. This skill was ranked the most important used in everyday life in a 1994 survey of 11,000 college students (Procon.org). So in other words, college teaches you many important skills that you will need for the real world.
Studies show that college graduates are healthier, and more productive members in a society than high school graduates. 24% more college graduates do volunteer work compared to high school graduates. And surprisingly, on average college graduates live up to 6 years longer than high school graduates (Procon.org).
Some people might argue that college is to expensive, and that after students graduate they will have massive student loans. This is veracity for most students, but, after going to college you will earn 66% more income than any high school graduate (Robinson). College graduates, unless unemployed, have lower poverty rates (Procon.org). Unless your college loan is more than $715,000, so college will definitely pay off in the long run (Hamilton).
So in conclusion you can now see how going to college can benefit you in more ways than you thought possible. If we have more college graduates in this world then we will have better, advanced technology, more teachers for educating, more ideas and thoughts on how to make the world a better place, and many more ways to impact the world and its people in a positive way. 70% high school graduates go to college, and I say we try and make that number higher (Robinson), because learning is always worth while (Procon.org).
